Linlithgow Gazette article, first page Spokes guide expanded Cycling routes all mapped out Julie Currie i julte.currie@natioiiatworld.com The new West Lothian Cycle Map produced by the Lothian Cycle Campaign, Spokes, hasjust been published. Centred on West Lothian, but now expanded west to include parts of Falkirk, the fully revised and updated map shows new cycle infrastructure and other developments across the area. It is invaluable for cyclists and walkers seeking safe routes to shops, work or school and planning running and leisure routes. The back of the map shows large-scale street maps of Linlithgow, Livingston, Armadale, Whitburn, Bathgate and Blackburn, together with information on places of interest in the area. Printed on tear and water-resistant synthetic paper, which is also fully recyclable, it is available from bike shops, selected SPOKCS Wett LoShUin Cyile Map UPiSi A mong amt tluiablf allweathut map tptdally WfW deiisnetl for cytllsl) West Lothian Cycle Map Fifth edition of the map is available from various stockists now. bookshops and direct from Spokes. Local Spokes volunteers surveyed all of West Lothian, as well as Bo'ness and parts of Falkirk and Grangemouth, while West Lothian Council provided information on new and planned active travel improvements. Major revisions to the map include adding contours and hill-colouring and shading so users can see the hilly areas at a glance, and all the new housing developments are now shown.
second page... Speaking on Spokes behalf, Katharine Taylor said: "This has been a great voluntary effort by local Spokes members and by our skilled cartographer. "The new map will help residents and visitors find their way around the area in active and healthy ways, as well as showing new quiet routes and short cuts they didn't know existed!" Spokes members met at West Lothian Bike Library in Livingston for the launch of the map's fifth edition. Also in attendance were Bathgate and Linlithgow MP Kirsteen Sullivan and West Lothian Council's deputy provost Peter Heggie. Kirsteen said: "The new map is a fantastic resource for residents across West Lothian and Falkirk, helping cycUsts and walkers find safer and greener routes to work, school and for leisure activities. "This kind of voluntary effort in active travel plays a vital role in working towards healthier communities and a cleaner environment. A huge well done to all volunteers involved in delivering the updated map." Graeme Burton, the council's design engineering manager, gave an update to guests on planned active travel projects in the local authority area. The map was also printed with the support of the council. Deputy Provost Peter Heggie said: " I was delighted to attend this launch event and hope that people from West Lothian and beyond enjoy using this new map to explore our county." The new West Lothian Cycle Map is available from local bike shops, priced £7.50. Those who order before the end of October via office@ spokes.org.uk can buy a single map for £7 (postfree) or six copies for £25. West Lothian #SpokesMap – 5th edition! The 5th edition of our highly praised West Lothian Cycle Map was launched on 11 October by Kirsteen Sullivan, MP for Bathgate and Linlithgow and Cllr Peter Heggie, Council Deputy Provost, at West Lothian Bike Library / Crofthead Community Centre. The whole county was surveyed in detail by Spokes volunteers, together with a new area covering Falkirk, Bo’ness and the Kelpies. The map was then completely redrawn and revised by our maps group’s skilled volunteer cartographer, using new software which enables simpler future updating.

Bruce Mason (Deleriad) - Bluesky post This is on my mind because I start a new job at Heriot Watt next month and cycling from west Edinburgh appears to be infeasible. At the induction two weeks ago, I couldn't find anywhere to lock my bike safely. I may be missing something so this is a genuine, not rhetorical, question.

@LaidBackBikes @laidbackbikes.bsky.social · 42m Anyone been down by Silverknowes recently? Seems the segregated cycle path and bus lane has been removed. Recent @edi.bike bulletin flagged up the likelihood of what are seen as 'obstacles to driving' being targeted for removal. 🚗🚗🚗🚗Does this path appear on new @spokes.org.uk map?
Official reasons in the Experimental Traffic Order.. Statement of Reasons The City of Edinburgh Council (Traffic Regulation; Restrictions on Waiting, Loading and Unloading, Stopping and Parking Places and Prohibition of Motor Vehicles) (Silverknowes Road Area, Edinburgh) (No. 1) Experimental Traffic Regulation Order 2025 – ETRO/21/30C The introduction of the proposed measures are intended to provide safer cycling infrastructure and pedestrian priority areas, encourage sustainable travel (walking and cycling) and improve road safety. The scheme is being introduced by way of Experimental Traffic Order made under Section 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, so as to allow the Council to modify or vary the scheme at short notice once in force, should circumstances require. On 16 November 2023 the Council approved proposals to use Experimental Traffic Regulation Orders (ETROs) to take forward a revised version of the Silverknowes Road Travelling Safely Scheme including re-opening Silverknowes Road north of Silverknowes Parkway to general traffic, and installing cycle lanes and parking restrictions on Silverknowes Road south of Silverknowes Parkway. The proposed 18-month trial is intended to support the approved transport hierarchy, measures included in the City Mobility Plan and Draft Circulation Plan. Edinburgh needs mobility options that by 2030 are carbon emission free, efficient, accessible and affordable. The more opportunity we have to make greener, safer, more sustainable choices in how we move around, the greater the chance we have to reduce the impact of climate change. The perception of risk that pedestrians and cyclists face is a major obstacle to encouraging more people to walk, wheel and cycle between the places they live, work and visit. Measures will be monitored and evaluated during the first year and considered for retention under separate traffic orders as appropriate
#Silverknowes
#SpokesMap correct! Says: " #SpacesForPeople lane, experimental, may be changed or removed"
Weird situation, this lane removed, but 'no parking' coming here, and new segregated planned north of this

My favourite local bike rides: Rail and River Ramble Lost in Livi 1.02K subscribers 211 views 23 Jul 2025 LIVINGSTON Join me on one of my favourite routes around Livingston, West Lothian. Starting and finishing at Livingston North Rail Station, my ride follows entirely traffic-free river-side and rail track-bed paths with just a couple of short sections on traffic-calmed residential streets as I ride around Livingston and on into Almondell and Calderwood Country Park. It's an end-to-end video record of the entire ride, so settle back for a long one! Along the way I chat about stuff as I pass by and point out where exploratory diversions might be made. The route follows much of the middle section of The Shale Trail and there's a wealth of useful information about the trail and the area's heritage at www.shaletrail.co.uk

Picture of bikes at Thistle, and headline text.. All Ability Bikes at Thistle 27 Oct Written By Thistle Foundation We are delighted to have received funding from City of Edinburgh Council to continue adaptive bike sessions here at Thistle.
Article about Thistle's work on adaptive cycling... Over the past months we’ve worked closely with Cycling UK, who previously ran the Edinburgh All Ability Bikes Centre, to get our accessible cycling sessions up and running and we are looking forward to developing the work further. Cycling is a wonderful activity that offers many wellbeing benefits and we’re thrilled to be able to support people to experience the joys of cycling, whether for the first time ever, the first time in several years or the first time since last week! At present, our cycling sessions take place at Thistle’s Centre of Wellbeing in Craigmillar on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. We hope to have cycling sessions up and running in Saughton soon and we’ll share news about this on our social media and website when we have it. If you’d like to come along and join us, we’d love to see you. Just contact Thistle’s reception team on 0131 661 3366 or email reception@thistle.org.uk for more info and to book.
