Sal the jumping spider (a male platycryptus californicus, I think) has been my pal since he descended to my desk from the ceiling in my office on Oct 14th. I collected him in a special cup I keep specifically for rescuing spiders to transplant them somewhere safer. I decided he was too cute and vulnerable to put outside and I would protect him so now he lives in an enclosure that looks like a house with climbs and hides and a tiny "lake" where I deposit a drop of water for him to drink from now and then.

An early configuration of Sal's house shaped enclosure. It's 5×5×8". The blue thing on the roof is the lid to the cup resting over the closed feeding hatch. The cup is inside as I had just released Sal into his new home.

I had a visitor today. He’s now living in my bathroom and CEO of bug control.

This is either a house jumping spider or a half edge wall jumping spider, depending on google’s mood.

I love everything about my little spider, except the scale is making it hard to get the eyes to work in thread. I mean, I can get eyes they just aren't expressive. Aarrrrgggh.
