From the north west #StMichaelBrentKnoll #Somerset on #TowerTuesday
Early C15 3-stage tower. Set back buttresses, string courses, pierced parapet and pinnacles. This marks a return to the 3-window bell stage seen in many of the churches of the River Axe such as #StAndrewCheddar

A tricky choice this week but the #MouseFavouritePhoto from #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset features the wonderful, tall, elegant tower arch, framing both C13 font and Perpendicular west window
And as #FontsMeanFarewell, what of the church of #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset? Striking outside and beautiful inside. It's a fine example of a sensitive C19 renovation (by Butterfield of all people), saving the church and preserving its essence. Mouse award 4/5 #MusVisit๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
#OneFinalLook at #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset
Mouse is much taken by the chancel roof. The structure is C14, the painting C19 by Butterfield. Whether this followed the original design or one of his own, Butterfield left a wonderful legacy in this fine church (who'd have thought?)
Having declared a #FridayPipes day, Mouse singularly failed to find any really good ones. The wait however is over Ladles and Jellyspoons. Pipey beauties in abundance at #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset in the north chapel
Rather crudely carved but bold C17 cover, the brass handle of which proves a comfy perch and vantage point for Ricky Robin. It's been a while so we had a bit of a chat #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #FontsOnFriday
(Cyma recta shape is formed from two blended arcs. It's an #Ogee)
Arcade of trefoil arches on tuscan columns (one bay per side) on this early C13 hexagonal font carved in relief. Just fifty years or so before the arcade would have been Romanesque circular arches #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #FontsOnFriday
Only moderately repaired early C13 font with rather fine carved C17 font cover.
Mouse really like this photo with the bays of the aisles cascading away to the chancel arch. And look how tidy the church is #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #FontsOnFriday
Font plays hide and seek with a degree of competence normally associated with an orange man trying to run a sadly soon to be waning superpower ("little bit of politics there", to quote Mr Elton) #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #FontsOnFriday
(Mouse disclaimer: It's called satire. Stop moaning)
Adjacent to south priests door #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset
A mass or scratch dial, perhaps? Probably not
Mouse finds these little stair turrets fascinating. They were often demolished once they fell from use and so it's lovely when you find a survivor. And on the other side of the turret... north aisle ground level (left) and rood level #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #AdoorableThursday
Mouse love to find a still intact mid-air door. Formally giving access to a (now long lost) rood loft above a rood screen obviously but still intriguing. Why share these picture? Because #ItWouldBeRoodNotTo (new hashtag) #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #AdoorableThursday
North elevation of north aisle #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #AdoorableThursday
Mouse could stop at "starkly beautiful" but kind of feels obliged to say "chamfered pointed doorway below large 6-light Perpendicular 4-centred window with cusped lights" (sorry)
South elevation of chancel adjacent to south chapel #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #AdoorableThursday
Double pseudo-4-centred arch. Roll moulded outer, hollow (or cavetto moulded) inner. A great lump of a lintel and Mouse not sure if it's original C16 or a Butterfield addition
Ring pull and lock plate with nailed fixings. The door is filleted and studded. All in all a very nice combo #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #IronworkThursday
One for #SurprisedChurches from #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #AdoorableThursday
Bloated Perp window seems to barge its Decorated neighbour out of the way so no wonder there's surprise at such treatment. A metaphor for the development of church architecture
South elevation of chancel
It feels like it's been a while since Mouse found some decent head stops on a door or window, but these are really rather good. West door #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset
A rather diminutive door for such a tall tower, perhaps but striking in its simplicity #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #AdoorableThursday
East end of south chapel (with matching on north side) #StAndrewCheddar #Somerset #WindowsOnWednesday
Big Perp 6-light window set in 3-centred arch with label (connected to the label of its Decorated neighbour). Cusped pointed lights. Mouse actually suspects that this is C19
