St. Wilfrid’s Church at Ribchester in Lancashire. The main body of the church is mostly 13th century in date, while the tower dates to the late 15th century. 📸 My own. #SteepleSaturday #StWilfrids #Ribchester #Lancashire

@stwilfridsribchester is one of many churches around Lancashire and the country ringing their bells today at 6:30pm to mark VE Day 80, as we collectively mark the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945.

Finally got round to doing a #Swift colony check this evening at #Longridge #StWilfrids. Just three years in and 8 out of 12 boxes showing signs of occupancy. Still five active nests with broods of 1,1,1,2 & 2 swiftlets. Ace. @bandbswifts @LancasterSwifts @AfSwifts @McG_Hilary

After two pairs last year we now have four occupied boxes in the #StWilfrids #Longridge belfry 😍. Here's a few pics including a peeper looking keen to go. Incredible that these evolutionary marvels will be feeding over the canopies of African rainforests within weeks. #Swifts

Aaaaand relax. We were getting a little worried about the #Swift nestlings being so late in the season, they were still in the nest on 10 September, but a check of #StWilfrids #Longridge belfry today revealed an empty box and successful fledging. Buzzin! 🙌

The skies over #Longridge are quiet but the two nestling #Swifts in the #StWilfrids belfry boxes are still here. I expect these will be fledging this week and instinctively heading south to enliven the skies above the Congo rainforest. 🤯

#SWIFT CHICKS 💥 in one of the new boxes at #StWilfrids #Longridge!!! Just under two weeks old I reckon. Fingers crossed these fledge as success in the first year will be such a great result to help persuade the diocese to roll this out at other sites. @bandbswifts @McG_Hilary
