Several standing stones in a ring. These are the Stones of Stenness on Orkney. Three are tall and the tops slant to a triangular point. Two stones in the back are broken and much shorter than the other three. There is a field of short grass in front. The sky is gray with heavy clouds.

This was a magical day. I'd love to go back.

A small circle of five squat stones with the pillars of the Druid Circle on the horizon).

A rough circle of raised grass and heather surrounds a number of small, perhaps half-buried, stones within it.

For completeness sakes, here are the two remaining circles of the Druid Stones complex above Penmaenmawr in #Gwynedd. Neither in great condition. The first is small (kerb circle?) and roughly to the east of the main circle, (seen on the horizon). The other is to the west.

this is a photo of the piper standing stones at minions in cornwall. there is a sketch in the fore ground being held up of the same scene. The texture on the sketch was done through "crayon" rubbing but using a graphite stick.

Return visit after nearly 30 years to the atmospheric Druid Stones above Penmaenmawr, #Gwynedd. This is the largest of several circles. One of the most spectacularly located in the UK, with stunning views over to the Great Orme - which I got to enjoy on a perfect summer's day.

The last of my scans from the 1990s - the #Cumbrian marvel of Long Meg And Her Daughters, and the humbler Little Meg not far away. The spiral designs on Long Meg can clearly be seen. I got there just early enough to avoid (other) gawpers. Long overdue for a return visit.
