Instead, they use sharks to lower their energy consumption, since, if they hang on to a shark, they don’t have to swim or hunt for themselves.

This finishes my set of seahorses and other Syngnathiformes in honor of Project Seahorse. Next up: a set of ten ‘Ugly Fish,’ because ugly fish need love, too.

It is native to the Indonesian-Pacific, but reaches as far east as the Sea of Cortez. It is an invasive species in the Mediterranean Sea. In support of the IUCN SSC Seahorse, Pipefish, and Seadragon Specialist Group, this set of ten paintings will be pipefish and other Syngnathiformes.
