A comet with a tail.

#Comet C/2026 A1 (MAPS) is a Kreutz #sungrazer. These types of comets get very close to the sun. The Kreutz family comets are fragments of a large comet that broke up centuries ago.

This is a #JWST MIRI image from program 12509.

Cute! 😍 Yesterday a small Kreutz-group comet discovered in CCOR-1 was found to be "double" when it entered the SOHO/LASCO C2 FOV! Close sungrazer fragments are personally my favorite! ☄️☄️
