A fascinating talk showing tangible results changing people's lives with VR. Really enjoyed insights, dealing with realism and Metaverse concerns! Talk was expertly chaired by Ana Maria Dorgo. #T4S5 #LT25uk
#T4S5 can VR help being comfortable with change?
Josh: maybe with how helping people dealing with worst case scenarios, so feedback, interviewing skills for example. Change in itself is too nebulous to focus VR on #LT25uk
#T4S5 time for questions! How do we integrate full stress responses into VR ? This is not something that has been done yet but being explored #LT25uk
#T4S5 Interested in introducing VR in your organisation? Josh says: define the challenge, research use cases and plan a pilot. #LT25uk
#T4S5 when making the case for value, consider where VR makes sense: Empathy, Emotional Intelligence, DEI, High pressure scenarios, observational skills, non-verbal skills are topics where VR can add a solution to business issues. #LT25uk
#T4S5 prioritising accessibility and making adoption easy for the learners is key. Playing with formats (workshops, multi platform solutions, Hubs) will help people engage #LT25uk
#T4S5 solutions were Onboarding workshops, more time and resources such as drop in sessions to help advisors, which help adoption rates to jump to 71% by end of 2023 - again, we cannot underestimate the human touch when dealing with tech. #LT25uk
#T4S5 Adoption issues: peer role plays were impacted by COVID. Only 41% of users adopted VR in 2022 by themselves, citing time constraints, and not feeling confident in the tech #LT25uk
#T4S5 Josh's case studies focus on how his team train advisors to deal with vulnerable clients using VR and real life scenarios. #LT25uk
#T4S5 change of gear now with Josh Ellick, Immersive Tech Manager at St James Place, talking about developing soft skills in VR #LT25uk
#T4S5
VR is Resource effective, as you take it to the learners (useful for shift workers as well); not many people are needed to lead the learning, and there is space savings as well - again a plus in healthcare #LT25uk
#T4S5 in this case study, users express that training via VR eases performance anxiety, which indicates a good level of psychological safety in learning too. #LT25uk
#T4S5 User effectiveness:
around 20% pre VR knowledge vs 90% post VR knowledge.
21% pre VR confidence vs 72% post VR confidence. #LT25uk
#T4S5 VR makes concepts easier to digest and makes training more likely to stick to high numbers of staff. Speed of deployment is a massive benefit. #LT25uk
#T4S5 A simple framework to develop your own VR scenario:
- idea
- Script
- Film
- Edit
- Publish #LT25uk
#T4S5 "fun", "genuine", "real", "immersive", "safe"....
Dr Fukuta says it's safe, interactive and immersive which makes it a good experiential tool for learning. #LT25uk
#T4S5 why is VR so impactful? The audience is sharing among themselves. Answers to follow... #LT25uk
#T4S5 Dr Junaid Fukuta takes the stage and recalls his work as doctor in ICU during the pandemic, leading to his work on VR as digital solution for simulation training. #LT25uk
#T4S5 Using Menti for gathering answers, we're asked what's one learning need that VR would be great for? Answers range from feedback to surgery! #LT25uk
