A Tasmanian or Little Pygmy Possum, on top of a post. The body length of the animal is about 4 or 5 cms.
This is a #Tasmanian or Little Pygmy Possum, that is smaller than the regular Pygmy Possums. This one was in my garden. For an idea of size, the full diameter of the post measures 12cm. You can also see its prehensile tail.
A bright blue bird bath set among green bracken. In the bird bath stands a large Black Currawong, with piercing yellow eyes. It is staring at a second Black Currawong that is on the ground. There’s only room for one of them in the bird bath.

As the old saying goes, "Epacris longiflora is red, Westringia fruticosa is (arguably) blue, these are empirical facts". A #Valentines Day trip to the #Tasmanian arboretum near #Devonport to look at native Antipodean #plants, #trees, and #flowers? (And snakes, but I was too slow with the camera!)
Orange coloured fungal balls that have a honeycomb-like pattern growing on a moss and lichen covered branch.
A younger patch of the fungal fruit. This one has a lot more of the "balls" but a large proportion have not opened so look a matt apricot colour. Some have opened to reveal the orange honeycomb-like indents. These probably have a name, but I don't know what it is.
"Myrtle oranges" are a really striking #fungus (Cyttaria gunnii). The myrtles (Nothofagus cunninhamii) at a roadside stop on the #Tasmanian west coast were being hammered by these.

For those wondering the red slime (#Noctiluca scintillans) happens down here regularly in summer under warm easterly conditions. It’s a bioluminescent subtropical algae that has spread into our #Tasmanian waters with rising ocean temperatures.

A Grey goshawk, previously in a eucalyptus, has now moved to a wattle tree. As the bird has all-white feathers, it’s easily seen against the background of green leaves and brown branches.
