Though in all honestly it was a much cheaper building when it was bought many years ago. The same goes for Wolfland Bank and Magnum Opus, very old buildings which rarely ever change hands. Their local tax bill is worked out in proportion to their purchase price, not their market value. Modern wooden homes have a life expectancy of fifty years, and that means that people anticipate that they will move home at least three or four times in the lives. It also means that fire safety is of major importance and that’s why there are so many water towers and Sentinellas across the city. “This is so complicated,” says KristalClear, “and why is council tax so expensive?” “It’s not complicated,” says Mrs Wood, “this is a vast simplification of the system they had before The Decimation in 2162. And things have to be paid for. We all learnt that at school! Wolfland rules, if you want something you have to pay for it.
