#Birds feed, in the meanwhile share your beauties!

A white bird with very pale gray on the upper wings, a short black beak, a black eye patch, and a short tail with long forks on either side flies against a pale bluish-gray sky with its wings above its back and its head looking down toward the ground. It is a bit out of focus but good enough.

On terribly windy days, with birds blowing one way and my camera the other, I'm happy to even get them in the frame. If they're recognizable, I call it a win and walk away content.

a common term, photographed from the front, it's head is in focus and wing span as well. there's a black cap, and the wings are dark from above. it's flying over the dock water - which is littered with plastic.

a tern, just out of focus, as it makes a swift flight. there are small ferries in the background with people working/prepping to take it out for fishing.

another photo of the same bird, just out of focus - as it flies in front of a different ferry which has large containers on board to collect fresh catch.

It's always crazy to shoot Terns! they are fast, and shooting them with a D7000 (+ Tamron 70-300)

A little tern lands, fish in beak, besides its potential mate, who is already screaming in anticipation. Little terns have a yellow bill and legs, which set it apart from the other terns in the Netherlands, which have red or black bills, and although it has a black cap like most terns, it also has a pure white forehead.

The male little tern has dropped a small fish in flight, and is diving to catch it mid-air (it is succeeding).

Back in May on Texel, I witnessed a little tern (dwergstern) impress its mate by catching fish for her at the beach, over and over again, for at least two hours (probably more, but that's when I left). A small stream of sea water separated us and the terns did not mind me. #birds #TernTuesday

Here's a Tern I saw while out walking in Norfolk. This is on the beach at RSPB Titchwell Marsh.

A white bodied bird is flying towards the viewer in the blue sky. Its wings are almost straight up and down as it turns and the red bill is wide open as it screams. The top of its head is black and this covers the black eyes as well.

A generally white bodied bird, with gray splotches on the belly, is flying away from the viewer at a 45 degree angle. Looking at it from below, the V shaped tail is half open as its red bill, which is black tipped. The head has a black cap and the ends of the primaries are also black. The background is the blue, summer, Spanish sky.

A small white bird flies in the sky, wings horizontal. It is a full side view and the long yellow bill and short yellow legs are on show. It has a black cap which zags down across the eye to the base of its bill. The image is fuzzy.

Heat haze has been a real killer for sharp images this summer. Here is a typical example; cropped 50% to show it better (or should that be worse?). It looks like high ISO but the image is actually ISO 320.
Still, it is always great to see Little Terns, fuzzy or not.

A swampy terrain with a tern flying above it, its head and neck stooping down to better observe and find insects and invertebrates above the water. The birds body, neck and head are completely lack while its tail and wings are pure white, with clear black legs, giving it some spectacular contrasts.

For #TernTuesday, a white-winged tern (witvleugelstern) on the hunt. Terns are among my favourite birds and the white-winged tern is perhaps the fanciest I've seen. This was a rare breeding pair in the Onnerpolder near Groningen in 2021: their usual populations are much further east. #birds

It's #TernTuesday and this Little Tern is looking for tiny fish.
They can hover in place before diving in which gives them a better chance of catching the target. #birds
