A traditional pole barn. The 'poles' in this case are tree trunks - a more modern barn would have old telegraph poles, yet more modern still would have steel interfilled with concrete blocks. In either case a corrugated steel roof is essential. This, now demolished barn, probably dates to the 1920s. When completed you fill it with farm junk & wait for the photographers... :-)

Photographed to death by everybody including the great and the good. Originally built in 1961 as a Methodist Chapel for quarry workers, apparently it was soon converted into a social club. Merrivale Quarry has been closed now for some years.
