Good view of the high tides on the Lune and Esk estuaries on the the way up to Glasgow. No photo because fast moving train, so you'll have to imagine the water lapping at the edges of a very full river in a flatish landscape, a bright spot of sun in the overcast sky. #train2agu #osm26
#Train2AGU
Another #Train2AGU?
Can anyone beat @helenczerski.bsky.social for #Train2AGU? Come on Europeans, who's heading to Glasgow via Eurostar?

We made it to DC! We know that not everyone has the time or the money for long distance train travel, but if you are thinking about it then we would definitely recommend! #Train2AGU
Me holding a book: “Travels with Charley” by John Steinbeck. In the background you see Alice staring out of the train window.
Perfect reading for a journey across America! It’s been 3 days since we left Austin (42 hours on a train) and we only have 2 hours to go to DC! #Train2AGU
View of a misty river out of the train window, alongside the top bunk in the sleeper car.
Woke up to a misty morning as the train rolls through Pennsylvania alongside the Casselman River. It’s nice that the top bunks have windows too. We had a nice and refreshing sleep and are excited for some good science this afternoon @agu.org! #Train2AGU
Alice sitting across from me in the dining car. Two plates of fancy food are on the table along with glasses of wine and fizzy water.
The dining car on the Floridian is much fancier than the Texas Eagle! It’s popular too, so we shared a table with two fellow travellers and had a lovely dinner. #Train2AGU
Alice sitting in our roomette on a train sewing a patch onto a quilt.
Speeding towards DC on the final leg of our #Train2AGU journey and @alicerturner.bsky.social has already got the sewing out.
We spent the night in Chicago and then had most of the day to explore the city! We hit up Lake Michigan, the Field Museum and the canals. #Train2AGU
Alice and Ed standing beneath a massive arch. We are next to a sign that says “Gateway Arch National Park”.
View of the Mississippi River from the top of the arch. Two bridges cross the river.

We had a fab day in St Louis and now we are off again on #Train2AGU. 5 hours until we’re in Chicago!
Train ride sadly came to an end in Wilmington because a chunk of concrete fell off from a railroad bridge north of Baltimore 😢 The infrastructure act can’t come soon enough. #train2AGU
Crowded Acela but quiet cafe car 👌🏼 #Amtrak #train2AGU
Sunrise over the Texas Eagle train on the platform of St Louis Union Station.
21 hours after we left Austin, we arrived in St Louis! We could be in Chicago by lunchtime and DC tomorrow, but we’re getting off to spend the day exploring! #Train2AGU
The fact that I don’t have to pack for flying gives me immense joy. #AGU24 #train2AGU
Train cabin converted into bunk beds. Alice is lying in the bottom bunk wrapped in our handmade National Park blanket.
As we roll through Arkansas on our #Train2AGU, it’s time to get some sleep. Goodnight everyone and goodnight @alicerturner.bsky.social 😴
Ed in the dining car eating some Asian BBQ glazed salmon with rice and vegetables.
Hour 10 and it’s dinner time! The salmon was really yummy 😋 #Train2AGU
Picture of the Fort Worth Central Station sign on the platform, with rail lines in the background.
5 hours into #Train2AGU and we’ve made it Fort Worth. Had time to stretch our legs and chat to a guy on the platform. After hearing our accents he remarked that “The UK went downhill after it closed its coal-fired power plants.” At least he’s (accidentally) doing his bit for #ClimateFriendlyTravel!
Selfie of Ed and Alice at a table in the diner carriage having breakfast.
1 hour into our 3 day train trip and we’ve had breakfast! #train2AGU
You may have heard of #Train2EGU, but what about #Train2AGU?! @alicerturner.bsky.social and I are taking the train from Austin, TX to Washington DC for @agu.org! Follow our climate-friendly and #SlowTravel journey here. Firstly, waving goodbye to #UTIG @utaustin.bsky.social 👋🏻
Train pulling in to station
Best part of #AGU24 being in DC? I get to #train2AGU! Thanks for the ride, Amtrak.
On a brighter note, I secured my Amtrak tickets for #train2AGU 🚅 #choochoo
Very envious of all the #train2egu posts. I am saving the #train2agu tag for this December 😠 @eurogeosciences.bsky.social
