He survived #UnderthePower (rewatchable). There's a whiff of he may die in this one but I haven't checked online yet. After watching 90 (?) episodes of #RiseofPhoenixes only to reach that ending I now stop watching before they die. Cdramas are a divil for killing off leads.

I’d been hoping for the same - lovely #SwordAndBrocade type stuff with a dash of #UnderThePower style cheeky charm from Tan Songyun’s character. I’m also a fan of Xheng Ye Cheng. So it was disappointing that #BrocadeOdyssey didn’t hit for me. I hope it works better for you.
She’s very good in #UnderThePower. That sort of plays to her #GoAhead style chirpy tomboy-ish character strengths.

I’m definitely not a fan of his. The only drama I’ve seen him in that I liked was #UnderThePower. His character is supposed to be cold and repressed, and he did a good job of that. 😆
Would you maybe count #UnderThePower as having a HE? Kind of. At the last gasp.
I’m not a huge fan of Ren Jialun (aside from #UnderThePower), so unless I hear great things about this then I won’t be giving it a go. 🤷♀️ He’s just not my cup of tea.
Oh, I did enjoy it. Very much so. #TheSwordAndTheBrocade is runner-up in the Tan Songyun historical roles challenge! 🥈 It’s just that I had a lot of fun watching #UnderThePower 🥇 - I saw it fairly early on in my C-drama life - and therefore it’s stuck more with me as a great role for her.
Oh, #UnderThePower is very good. One of my favourite Tan Songyun roles. Although there’s a character/pairing that drives me nuts after a while. Plus a whole weird fantastical interlude part in the middle of the show. Aside from those (minor?) gripes, I think it’s an excellent drama.
So it will be interesting to see what kind of character he plays. He was at his most menacing in #UnderthePower (if you saw that).
They are each over 50 episodes for sure, but they really are the classics. I could do propaganda for them, but I will spare you 😅
