With the spring flowers blooming, I've been hitting the old spots. This Dandelion patch has a few going, as shot last week.

Red Dead-nettle plant growing in a crack between grey paving slabs. In the centre of the image is a furry, black insect (female Hairy-footed Flower Bee) feeding from one of the pink flowers. Her shadow can be seen to the bottom left.
Always nice to see some pavement plants brightening up the grey slabs. Even better when they come with a bonus Hairy-footed Flower Bee and her shadow! #UrbanFlora #Anthophora #Bees
For a while now, I’ve been growing on an offset of a violet noticed while working on the #urbanflora. Hunch confirmed today by the gurus at @bsbibotany.bsky.social - Viola x bavarica, first record for Tyneside and only the third for VC67. Now I just need it to seed to be extra sure 👀
A selection of escapes and oddballs from a walk though Jesmond Dene today. Blue Anemone and Salmonberry I knew about, but Scilla forbesii and Arum italicum were new! 👀 #urbanflora
Two weeks since #urbanflora was published and I’m genuinely chuffed with the response ☺️
A huge thank you to everyone who’s picked up a copy so far!
Appearing with new booksellers soon, but for now, copies are available here:

The Pennsylvania Pellitory (Parietaria pensylvanica) should be popping out everywhere around here soon. It will grow out of anything, including tiny cracks in walls, which is a great advantage here. These shots were taken in Whitman on April 18th of last year. #UrbanBotany #UrbanFlora
Plenty of Colt’s-foot (Tussilago farfara) popping up around Heaton today. Very common, but cheery and welcome nonetheless. #urbanflora 🌼
Nice to stumble across a huge (10 m) patch of Cut-leaved Dead-nettle (Lamium hybridum) today. A pretty rare plant in the North East, though definitely under-recorded. #urbanflora
Each spring I look forward to the appearance of this little patch of naturalised Siberian squill (Scilla siberica) in Armstrong Park. It’s back again for a new season! #urbanflora
Eeee, that was fun. Thrilled to top off today's #urbanflora launch day with an @nenature.bsky.social talk to over 100 local people tonight ☺️📖
A street-gutter Sulphur #Cinquefoil (Potentilla recta) shot at the bottom of Whitman on May 19th of last year.

Huge congratulations James! So few urban Floras have been published this will be momentous. Can’t wait to get a copy and devour every page #UrbanFlora #UrbanPlants
With three days to go until the #UrbanFlora is published, it was a pleasant surprise to see this feature in the Journal this evening. Must say, never thought plants would make page 3! 👀🗞️🌿
PS, book is obviously subject to review by my harshest critic... 🦜

Huge congratulations to our fabulous friend @commonbynature.bsky.social!
His #UrbanFlora of Newcastle and North Tyneside will be out on Monday.
Essential reading for everyone interested in #UrbanBotany.
It'll be interesting to read it alongside @trevorthebotanist.bsky.social's #UrbanPlants book!

Auf einem herbstlichen Spaziergang durch #Fürth habe ich diese Szene gefunden. Da fehlt fast nur noch ein inspirativer Spruch zu Resilienz drauf. 😅

It’s official!
The 'Urban Flora of Newcastle and North Tyneside' will be published on Monday 9 March 🌿 📖
I’m hugely proud of this, and ever so grateful to @nenature.bsky.social and @bsbibotany.bsky.social for their support in making it happen. #botany #urbanflora

This young Japanese Lace Fern (Polystichum polyblepharum) seems to be doing well on its chosen bank in Jesmond Dene. #ferns #urbanflora
