My image of the Western Veil nebula, part of the Cygnus Loop complex.
When I began imaging the Cygnus Loop two years ago, working on this target became a source of sustained inspiration while writing A Signal Through Time.

Image of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant that has a circular shape. It is composed of several sections. On the right is the Western Veil Nebula, which starts at a point near the top, and expands toward the bottom before it splits into two distinct tails. The Eastern Veil Nebula is in the left and bears a close resemblance to the head and face of the Xenomorph from the movie, "Alien." The Cygnus Loop is a near-circular remnant of a super-nova explosion. One portion of it is called the Eastern Veil Nebula and I liken it to the Xenomorph from the movie, "Alien." Imaging details in Alt text. #cygnusloop #veilnebula #westernveilnebula #eastrnveilnebula #astrophotography #science 🧪🔭
#VeilNebula complex, taken from Oxfordshire, UK. 70mm refractor, 0.8x focal reducer, #AltairQuadband filter + astro-modded #Canon1100D. Shot during summer, 45x120sec ISO-1600. I removed the stars before processing & merged back in at the end, but I need far more practice at that!

The Western Veil Nebula NGC 6960 ✨
Capturing ancient stellar violence in the constellation Cygnus! This shows the aftermath of a massive star that exploded over 20,000 years ago.
Part of a larger mosaic project to capture the entire Cygnus Loop! 🌌

Veil Nebula complex in Cygnus. 71x3 min subs stacked with Siril. RedCat 51III, ASI2600MCPro, ASIAir Plus, Skywatcher Star Adventurer GTi, SVBony Duo Band (1 night), UV/IR (1 night), Multi Band (2 nights) filters.
Here is the deeper dive into processing the #VeilNebula Complex in Cygnus. Was able to pull out a lot of wispy details of the nebulosity and mellow out the stars. This is a little over 3.5 hours (over 4 nights) of total data combined. Loving the multi band filter! #SoCal #Astrophotography
A breathtaking Hubble Space Telescope image of a section of the Veil Nebula (Cygnus Loop), a supernova remnant from a star that exploded 7,000 years ago. The vibrant colors depict the wispy filaments of gas and dust, a stunning testament to the power of stellar death. This mosaic covers only a small part of the expansive nebula, which is over five times the size of the full Moon.

7,000 years ago, a star exploded. All that remains are these ethereal wisps of the #VeilNebula. Once as bright as a crescent Moon for our ancient ancestors, this supernova remnant (Cygnus Loop) now spans over 5x the Full Moon's size, 1,400 light-years away.

A wide-field astrophotograph showing the Veil Nebula, a delicate and colorful web of gas stretching across the constellation Cygnus. Thin, wispy filaments glow in red and blue tones — red from hydrogen emission, blue from oxygen. The structure appears fragmented and complex, spanning a large section of the sky. The image was captured from Kuwait in 2024 under dark skies.

Around 7,000 years ago, a star exploded, leaving behind the Veil Nebula. This image from Kuwait shows glowing filaments of gas stretching across Cygnus. Red = hydrogen, blue = oxygen.

A stunning image of the western Veil Nebula (NGC 6960), also known as the Witch's Broom Nebula. This supernova remnant, located 1400 light-years away in Cygnus, is the result of a stellar explosion that occurred 10,000 years ago. The vibrant colors are caused by the interaction of the expanding gas with surrounding material. The nebula spans more than three times the angular size of the full moon.

A stunning image of the Veil Nebula (NGC 6979), also known as the Cygnus Loop, showcasing its intricate filaments of glowing gas in red and blue hues. This supernova remnant, spanning six times the diameter of the full moon, is a breathtaking testament to the explosive death of a massive star, light from which reached Earth over 5,000 years ago. The image highlights the wispy structure, often called Pickering's Triangle or more accurately Fleming's Triangular Wisp, a testament to the celestial wonders discovered by early female astronomers.

A stunning telescopic image of the Witch's Broom Nebula (NGC 6960), a western segment of the Veil Nebula, a supernova remnant approximately 1400 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. The image showcases glowing filaments of atomic hydrogen (red) and oxygen (blue-green) gas, resulting from a cataclysmic stellar explosion 10,000 years ago. The bright star, 52 Cygni, is visible in the frame. The nebula spans about 35 light-years.
