A colour photograph in landscape format. It shows a very lovely blue, cloudless sky with one aeroplane flying above, away to some unknown destination. The plane is white, pale grey and orange and appears in the top left hand side of the photo.

A colour photograph in portrait format. It shows a recently sawn tree trunk that has been decorated by somebody to make a face! They used a sharpie or something similar. Seen at woodlands at Brimstage on the Wirral.
Alien
Hello Monday! Shocking thing seen last week and a possible poster for the film "Alien" from 1979 🙂

Spotted on a recent visit to Museum of Liverpool, a small replica Mesolithic hunting spear with main flint arrowhead and side barbs in the shaft (left). And a pale grey flint arrowhead found in Wirral of a similar type to the replica (right).

A gentle FYI from Mark.
Only highly limited August, September & October appointment slots remain for our diary this year.
A big thank you to all the brilliant people that keep this business going (and flourishing!). Maybe we should take someone on...?

🪨🏹Everyone knows the larger Bronze Age metal spearheads, here are two small arrowheads/projectile points. The smaller is 24mm, the larger 30mm in height. First metal arrowheads copies of their lithic counterparts, were they status objects too?

✨Something from the Bronze Age. An ingot of copper and a piece of raw amber. Extensive global trade links were established in Prehistory. Luxury goods made from raw materials like these would have been owned by the elite as markers of status and prestige.

🪨🪓A primitive Early Mesolithic c.10,000-8,000 BC flint tranchet adze 80x55mm. Once belonged to the first people to occupy the region after the last Ice Age, used for woodworking.

🪨Neolithic small pointed end flint axehead/elongate chisel tool 80mmx51mm. In the style of the Michelsberg Culture most probably used for small scale wood working. The earliest farmers would have been wealthy people, trading their knowledge & tools #FindsFriday #FlintFriday #Archaeology #Wirral
