“Every parent wants their child to be seen. How can you value what you don’t see? I don’t think these juries see our children.”

A3: I think we have to fight to keep black people away from school building if possible. Something that’s bothering me is the policing of black and brown children and how f2f “school” is going to get worse for so many of OUR children #WOCEdChat

A2: as educators we have a built in community and a build in voice. I think a most important aspect is framing both police brutality AND COVID as public health crises that are killing us and using our voices to fight against those evils. #WOCEdChat

A1: @kelisa_l2teach has no idea how much her brilliance has impacted how I teach + learn. @knikole in the glimpses I’ve seen of how she leads + mothers + makes space for blk women. And @sheathescholar for making dreaming an obligatory part of the work. #wocedchat

Hello to some of my favorite Twitter sisters. Today was pretty heavy so I’m going to be off for the night. I’ll slow chat this in the morning when my head is in a better place. Love to you all. #WoCEdChat

I was shocked that two months passed before the public learned about this young man's death. I was then disgusted that people who love him, like his mom, had to see him get shot over and over again on social media and the news for "likes." #wocedchat

A1: This summer, I had a training in restorative justices practices with two black women for the first time ever!! I will never forget it and I was so impressed with #FWISD for having such a diverse group of trainers #wocedchat

A4: this is rough. For so many of us, our strength and ferocity are our shields against oppression and how it shows up in education. We’re fighters. Dismantling the superwoman complex will require building coalitions so our vulnerability isn’t seen as weakness. #wocedchat

A3: mental health and wellness impacts all my relationships. When I’m struggling, my interactions struggle. I see it most in my patience for colleagues #wocedchat

A4: I struggle between wanting to push my students to meet traditional standards of success and wanting to burn the whole system down. So, I’m thankful for a whole week of planning and plotting how to find a happy medium #wocedchat

A3: Calling it out when it’s lip service. Interrogating what people mean when they use the word. Examining ourselves and our practices to ensure we’re not upholding inequitable practices. Coalition building. #wocedchat

Lack of understanding of Ss and their needs. Lack of time to devote to individualized needs. Lack of support for Ts who are working to do so. Lack of resources.

As a T from Texas, I’d also say lack of people in #TxLeg who know what they’re doing. 🤷🏾‍♀️

A2: I’m still v new to the profession, but I love teaching and integrating tech for differentiation. When I introduce new ideas I’m often blown off as being optimistic or trying too hard. But, the strategies are working. I have the data to support it. #frustrating #wocedchat

A1.2: When I received my Masters and started taking on more responsibilities to develop myself and my department professionally, I was ridiculed by my peers for doing “extra” It’s just now in #FWISD that I’m seen WOC in real leadership positions and I feel inspired #wocedchat

Chanea Bond. Slow/late responses from me as I take time to comfort my toddler after a rough day. I’m an ELAR teacher from North Texas and I slipped into this chat and it is my joy and pleasure. #wocedchat

A4: identifying what it is. I ALWAYS joked about how I’m “not good enough” and when I read the article for this chat, it hit me hard that I was doing this to make myself seem more palatable and presentable. I belong in places where decisions are made. My voice matters #wocedchat

Working hard to appear smaller, less powerful, to take up less space is a full time job that I don’t get paid for #wocedchat

A3: I think it leads to serious burnout. Doing the work (sometimes more than my share) and still feeling unworthy and not good enough is exhausting. #wocedchat

A2b. If I have an opinion or suggestion that deviates from the norm, I question vocalizing to not seem “difficult.” As if my voice and thoughts are inherently worth less #wocedchat

A2: the intersectionality of dealing with whiteness and masculinity as the standards is overwhelming. People who make decisions haven’t historically looked like me. #wocedchat

A1: I always feel like I need to check around me and see who the real “adult” or “person in charge” is in a room. I used to joke that I wasn’t “grown enough” or “experienced enough” to be a decision-making tables. A constant infantilization. #wocedchat
