Yesterday was #worldIBDday and also the day I found out that after having active disease for the last two years, I’m back in remission! Best way to celebrate the day! The meds and clinical guidelines that got me to remission were not available when I was diagnosed 20 years ago, or even 10 yrs ago.
Four books are stacked on a desk. From top to bottom: With You Forever- Chloe Liese (fiction romance and number four of a series) Quietly hostile - Samantha Irby (Nonfiction comedy short story magic What doesn’t kill you - Tessa miller (nonfiction, memoir meets scientific journalism, a MUST read) The man who couldn’t eat - Jon Reiner (nonfiction, memoir of man with IBD)
For #worldIBDDay, I shared some books on stream with IBD representation - what others would you add? Book titles and short descriptions in alt text.

Fantastic post. I’m also delighted to flag up that on #WorldIBDDay NHS Lothian’s RefHelp team, working with the WGH GI consultants launched an updated RefHelp page about IBD, as well as a new dedicated referral pathway for patients with a possible new diagnosis of IBD.
I was diagnosed with an inflammatory bowel disease Ulcerative Colitis in ~2006. Lots of running to the loo and countless of strong courses of cortisone since then. I've fortunately been in remission for years.
Shit happens. Literally. Nothing to be ashamed of ❤️

The "not what I'm called" meme, showing Something, in this case the text "Crohn's disease/Ulcerative colitis", addressing two kids with the speech bubble "hey guys". In response, one of the kids points and excitedly says "Irritable Bowel Disease!", to which Crohn's disease/Ulcerative colitis replies in allcaps "Not what I'm called".

On today's #WorldIBDDay, people might know that endo/colonoscopies are pretty common procedures for IBD folks, but mine comes with a fun little "balloon dilation" add-on each year to try to stave off a more substantial surgery.
