Last event in the Wharfedale Nats winter calendar was my Grassington walk at the w/e.
Fittingly, Whooper swans (38) flew over plus Golden plover and Fieldfare still.
Curlew singing all day, Lapwing displaying but missed out on Redshank and Snipe. Wheatear plus mipits & Skylarks.

A circuit of @northcavewet.bsky.social today added me a couple for the year list, which is a bonus, but is is always a real pleasure to visit.

Had a nice recovery walk at Ulrome this morning. Not loads birdwise but some wandering Canada's were new for the patch year list. #yorkshirebirding
Pre-work visit to #Swinemoor
Water level down, big reduction in Wigeon & Teal (both down to double figures, poss more Teal than Wigeon) spread across the site.
Still good number of Shoveler. A smattering of Redshank, Lapwing and Oycs.

Just reported on @birdtrack.bsky.social an Oystercatcher flying over #Hessle East Yorks to then discover it was a Starling sat on a TV aerial doing a masterful impression! 😅🤦♂️ #YorkshireBirding
Best amend that!

Bit of a surprise after picking up Ada from school - as we were walking back a Cattle Egret flew very low over Paull and out over the Humber.
I'd been expecting one in the fields around here at some point, but wasn't expecting it over the garden!

Phoenicurus ochruros gibraltariensis
The male Black Redstart showed well in Pontefract on Saturday. Big thanks to Hep & Abi for allowing me and @unsociable-lapwing.bsky.social access to their garden.
I never thought I'd hear one singing in the UK!

Close up of yellow flowers on a spiky evergreen plant.
Light brown reeds with a bit of water behind. Blue-grey sky.
Common gorse and common reeds at RSPB St Aidan’s yesterday. 54 bird species, including avocets, bearded tits (😍), black-necked grebes, little owl, Mediterranean gulls, red-crested pochard, and whooper swans. Bitterns in fine voice but elusive. #yorkshirebirding #UKbirding
North cave this morning, 3 Common Scoter, Redcrested Pochard, LRP, Siskin, Great White Egret, plenty of singing Chiff Chaffs being the highlights #yorkshirebirding
I'm sure I got unnecessarily excited earlier this afternoon when I put out "Red Kite over Oss Wash"
Not something I ever expected to say and in its own way a magical experience.

Had to go back for more views of the Waxwings this morning on my way to RSPB Blacktoft Sands. What a lovely bird - just love the quiff! #yorkshirebirding #ukbirding

Stopped on the way home to see the Waxwings as the mist had lifted.
Light not great but don't know why people think it's ok to go tramping in a farmer's crop field! #yorkshirebirding #ukbirding
"How do you do - is this seat taken?" Mediterranean Gulls at North Cave Wetlands today @northcavewet.bsky.social #ukbirding #yorkshirebirding
Recce in the #YorkshireDales for a Wharfedale Naturalists walk above Grassington in two weeks.
Curlew, Lapwing, Snipe, Redshank, Oystercatcher and Golden plover all the waders I hoped to find. Bonus flock of Fieldfare and Starling. 🤞they're still there April 4th.

A bit atmospheric but Waxwings showing really well at Goole Fields this morning #ukbirding #yorkshirebirding
Any #YorkshireBirding folk able to help out and send some descriptions in for birds found in 2025? Please read the list of descriptions still needed in the quoted post!
A really #greatpostday yesterday when the "Figham Common Bird Report" arrived.
A credit to @owentatdraws.bsky.social
Certainly inspiring me to drop by, probably closer to me than Swinemoor (a more frequent haunt in recent years) #YorkshireBirding
A worthy report of dedication to a local patch
Yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella) Brown, yellow and russet bunting blending in nicely with lichen covered, almost leafless, tree branches
Another pre-work visit to #Swinemoor still strong numbers of Wigeon, increase in Redshank since my last visit (17) Pintail (10) still present.
Nearly missed this Yellowhammer as I left the site.
