How beautiful! I’ll have to go to the museum when I visit #Totnes. I’ve only visited Totnes briefly, to photograph the war memorial which commemorates a man in my #OneNameStudy, but it’s a lovely place & I’d like to go back. This was the mermaid of #Zennor (various incarnations!) last week

Visited #Zennor Quoit today. Spectacular location, but a bit of a walk. It is a #Neolithic burial chamber & was built 2500-1000 BCE. Archaeological evidence unearthed on the site indicates that it was used for the burial of bodies which were later cremated and removed and replaced with others.

Zennor is one of my favourite places in Cornwall. Where moorland touches the sea. It feels untamed and I always feel a connection to my ancient ancestry there. It’s also stunning. This is the cove where legend says the Mermaid of Zennor lived, and I don’t blame her! #Zennor #Cornwall

Inside the barn conversion where we’re staying
We’re staying in a converted barn in #Trewey, #Zennor. Originally there were 4 farms next to each other on this land, one of them being Moyra’s direct ancestor Thomas Osborn. Not sure that this was his barn, but he certainly occupied the surrounding barns if not this one #MoyrasTrip

Die Vorderansicht mit 4 senkrecht stehenden Steinen (Menhir) davor. Dahinter sieht man die Portalsteine und der vordere Stein der Grabkammer. Der Deckstein liegt schräg nach rechts abgerutscht.
Ein Seitenstein und der nach hinten abgerutschte Deckstein..
In #Cornwall wurde auch einiges an alten Steinen besucht. Z.B.der #Zennor Quoit, ein Portal Grab ca. 5500 Jahre alt. Wir wanderten 3,1 km durch meist kniehohen Farn und Brombeersträuchern dorthin, es geht auch kürzer, wenn man richtig geht. 😉
