I've just finished up with this #counterprotest Chant, against the #Racist, #Fascist #FarRight #Thugs occupying #Bournemouth street corners weekly, making them UnSafe-Zones for whomever they dislike the look of.

Perhaps #Socialists, #Activists, #Lefties find some use for it.

The legislation also listed protections on the basis of religion, national origin, and gender. It has been amended to include handicapped and family status. In 1968, skin color was a determining factor when selling, renting, or mortgaging a home. Since people of color in the U.S. were financially able to move into white neighborhoods, segregationists have been trying to prevent it.

Banks and other lending institutions also limited Black ownership of real estate through the tactic of redlining, so-called because bankers would draw a line, often with red ink, on maps of neighborhoods where they would not finance home sales. Almost all of these areas were home to people of color. It is difficult to overstate the economic harm caused by this kind of housing discrimination. In the U.S., buying a home – of any type – has been the most common and most reliable way to build wealth – especially generational wealth.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Develop- ment or HUD says – even more than 50 years after passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 – housing discrimination remains a significant problem across the country. HUD’s recent research indicates that discrimination affects the housing decisions of more than four million renters in America each year.

On this day in 1968, U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed that year’s Civil Rights Act. It was an attempt to prevent racism from affecting how homes were sold, rented, and financed.

The same applies to every marginalized group that has ever gained rights. Those with systemic power never open their societies to include those excluded unless they are forced. It might be time to reconsider power dynamics.
