The image shows a close-up view of Jupiter's moon Europa. The surface is covered in a complex network of dark lines and cracks, indicating geological activity. These lines intersect across the moon's icy crust, forming various shapes and patterns. The surface texture appears rough and uneven, with some areas showing a mottled appearance due to darker patches.
The image shows a sculpture titled "Europa and the Bull" made from biscuit porcelain by the Meissen Manufactory. The scene depicts the mythological figure Europa riding on the back of a bull. Europa is seated on the bull, adorned in draped garments. The bull is adorned with floral garlands. Accompanying Europa are two female figures, one standing next to the bull and the other positioned behind. The overall composition rests on a textured base.

At twilight the moons Io (top) and Europa were lined up on the right side of Jupiter, making it hard to determine which one was casting its shadow on the planet. A little patience and the smaller size of the shadow (and Stellarium) made it obvious it was Europa. Details in ALT. #astrophotography

A deep-space photograph of the Centaurus A galaxy (NGC 5128) against a dense backdrop of distant stars. The galaxy appears as a glowing, elliptical orb of light bisected by a thick, chaotic dark dust lane that twists across its center. Faint, reddish star-forming regions are visible within the dust, and a subtle, hazy outer halo extends into the dark void of space.
A test shot of Centaurus A (Caldwell 77). A big, bright, weird galaxy that is usually better suited for southern hemisphere viewing but I’m far enough south here to catch it low in the sky in April/May.

This is a composite star trails image of the upper part of Orion, captured as it was setting behind some trees on the evening of 3 April 2026. The stars have been deliberately defocused to reveal the colours better. The upper centre yellow star is Betelgeuse. Bellatrix is to the lower right of Betelgeuse and the three belt stars can be seen at the bottom of the frame. The image is made up of 426 separate frames at 3.2s exp, 50mm fl, f/1.8, ISO-800.

It's 9.12pm and I've just been outside. I can see the Jupiter/Castor/Pollux triangle, as well as many other stars. However, again, it's through thin clouds. Sometimes clouds like that can enhance a picture, not tonight though. My (bad) luck continues. 🔭 🧪 #astrophotography
I did some #astrophotography from a back garden in York, on #Easter Sunday night... the Moon, Orion, Jupiter (and one of its moons!) but NO sign of #Integrity at all... was #Artemis2 heavily camouflaged, or already beyond the Moon by that point? 😉
art002e009301 (April 6, 2026) – Captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, this image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun. From the crew’s perspective, the Moon appears large enough to completely block the Sun, creating nearly 54 minutes of totality and extending the view far beyond what is possible from Earth. The corona forms a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk, revealing details of the Sun’s outer atmosphere typically hidden by its brightness. Also visible are stars, typically too faint to see when imaging the Moon, but with the Moon in darkness stars are readily imaged. This unique vantage point provides both a striking visual and a valuable opportunity for astronauts to document and describe the corona during humanity’s return to deep space. The faint glow of the nearside of the Moon is visible in this image, having been illuminated by light reflected off the Earth. Image Credit: NASA
art002e009288 (April 6, 2026) – Earthset captured through the Orion spacecraft window at 6:41 p.m. EDT, April 6, 2026, during the Artemis II crew’s flyby of the Moon. A muted blue Earth with bright white clouds sets behind the cratered lunar surface. The dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime. On Earth’s day side, swirling clouds are visible over the Australia and Oceania region. In the foreground, Ohm crater has terraced edges and a flat floor interrupted by central peaks. Central peaks form in complex craters when the lunar surface, liquefied on impact, splashes upwards during the crater’s formation. Image Credit: NASA
