I really didn't think this would finally happen in Australia. Our country has the worst record for species extinction on the planet.

Picture of a brown and cream lizard curled up on someone’s hands. The lizard has a stocky appearance with a triangular head
The weather is definitely heating up in Perth ☀️
Which means wildlife starting to look for water. Had to rescue this lovely Bobtail lizard from the backyard pool today. He’s currently at a wildlife rescue centre for a checkup and will hopefully be back home soon🤞

Whilst the Australian drop bear might be mythical, it seems that Australia was once home to the "drop croc"... an extinct clade of crocodile that could have climbed trees to then drop on their unsuspecting prey below

It has bands of black and pale yellow on its lower jaw, as well as on its fingers. It is hugging the tree tightly, with its long claws gripping the bark.

In this image the Bobtail is facing away from the camera crawling slowly along the ground which is covered in dry leaves and twigs.
This is Kevin, a Bobtail Lizard.
Noongar Name: Yoondarn
When we rescued Kevin he was very unwell with the Flu.
This was taken on the day we released him back to his home turf. He's looking very healthy with a nice fat tail.

One of my favourite Australian reptiles, Crocodylus porosus. Photographed in my early DSLR days on the Mary River in the NT. I really like the variations you get in skin colour on these animals. Also, they are very, very big! #auswildlife #ausreptiles.
