The ubiquitous Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen). There is an introduced population in NZ as well. Famed for their aggression when the young are fledging. They will bonk people on the head if they get too close. ๐Ÿ˜€ #BirdingAustralia #magpies

How about some #black&white birdies for today. Here is a New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae), the most common honeyeater in SE Australia. Seems strange now, but this bird was originally in same genus as the treecreepers (Certhia). #BirdingAustralia #honeyeaters

In Australia & New Zealand, one of the commonest birds I saw was this... European Blackbird (Turdus merula). They were everywhere along with many other European species like Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Dunnock, etc. Introduced by 19th century homesick European settlers. #BirdingAustralia

Pair of Kelp Gulls at Gould's Lagoon in Tasmania. The local guide told me they used to nest on this platform, but the Swamp Harriers would always come by and snatch the babies. So they don't nest in such an exposed position anymore. #BirdingAustralia #BirdingTasmania #gulls #SaturdayLaridae
