A couple of hours at the Rio Grande near Cártama today . Despite lots of disturbance (helicopters landing and taking off, diggers and loose dogs - it's amazing what birds will tolerate) managed to see a good variety of waders and raptors. 29 species seen.

First a shower of rain, then a sighting of a pair of Short-toed Eagle's. Pleasures in late July.

Trying to capture swifts in the evening, that fly screaming over the houses, just for fun - very difficult even with a good camera and lots of experience; with a mobile, mpossible. You'll just have to trust me. They were there; it was glorious.

Crag Martin. Obviously it's part of it all; the natural world is not fairyland - but I feel for the live bee being fed to a chick.
I guess that, like a bee-eater she had knocked the bee's sting off on a branch or edge before feeding it to the chicks.

Thrilled to see a pair of golden oriols fly across the road and down the valley, while driving to Árchez. No mistaking that bright yellow body and black wings! Not super rare here but shy and surprisingly hard to spot. Made me grin all the way home.

Serin , seen in February - an earlier arrival. These bright songsters are the sound of spring and summer, the Spanish Canary. I am still mainly hearing goldfinches and chaffinches, but I guess the series are on their way.

Lovely view of Grey Wagtail on a railing in Árchez. I know I shouldn't be birding while driving, but it lifted my commute. Then, parking up there was a blackcap under the olive tree and a chaffinch cheeping from a wire. Little things make me happy. #birdingmalaga

Saw dozens of flocks of tweeting birds flying over grasses and gorse bushes high on Maroma's lower slopes. None letting me see them, of course. Day to day I'm seeing goldfinches, some series, and today a really good view of a chaffinch. The pines are full of great tits and blackcaps. #birdingmalaga

Birds in town. Collared dove and sparrow.

In the countryside I am now seeing flocks of gold finches and a few serin. Lots of tweeters in the bushes defying me ro get a good look at them, too.

First glimpse of Canillas on yesterday's walk. I saw black restart, flocks of goldfinches, white wagtails and, at the water tank at the top of the village, a grey wagtail. But didn't take my good camera so no bird shots.

#Birdwatching while driving I believe I saw a thrush. So many birds you get used to outline and bodyshape and can make a reasonable id. Don't often see thrushes here, more commonly lares and pipits, but they are slighter.

Chiffchaff (most likely) or possibly a willow warbler. They look close to identical but there songs are completely different. Mosquitero común in Spanish.
