Over to Caldicot, back via Uskmouth: Whitethroat all over the shop (13+), Sedge and Reed dotted about, fair number of Swallow at breeding sites but nothing too exciting. #gwentbirding #birdingbybike #lowcarbonbirding

The view from our kitchen window. At least 4 Blackcaps arrived on Saturday to eat the ivy berries. A good food source for tired migrants. #UKBirding #Lowcarbonbirding #Northumberland

Year tick Yellow Wags & a Wheatear all beautifully lined up like musical notes on a wire fence. Too distant to capture sadly.
Enjoyed observing common birds, a Blackcap hunting insects, a nest building Chiffy with a feather in its bill. Also a Cattle Egret in flight

Hill Head & Titchfield Haven: Rock Pipit (expertly digi-binned), Common Sandpiper & Lesser Whitethroat new in plus noticeable increase in Sedge Warblers & Whitethroat. Hat nearly blew off in the wind 😆 but otherwise a nice walk #PWC2026 #LowCarbonBirding

a horned grebe (in molting plummage?) and soaking wet from diving paddles over and looks at the camera. craning its neck up and tilting its head to see what i was about with red eye. while out for a bike yesterday it was spotted out in a little inlet. these are unusual at this location but we do get migratory birdo's making there way where they do. i attempted to put the bike away and sit down by the shore once it left in hopes it would come back and allow for a better photo, but alas. it was thrilling to spot it in the first place. - a lifer! :-)

Do horned grebes count? This lifer was craning its neck to see what i was about up high on a berm. #BirdoftheDay #LongNecks #BirdsSeenin2026 #LowCarbonBirding

Two Ring Ouzels

Up to eight Ring Ouzels seen earlier on the Ivinghoe Hills was a good reason to take a train from Milton Keynes to Tring, with added bonuses of my first Wheatears and Whitethroats of the year #bucksbirding #lowcarbonbirding

Also a Common Sand was nearby at Hemlingford Water at lunchtime, 60x Sand Martin, the odd Swallow and 2x Red Kite. #lowcarbonbirding #warksbirding

An oak tree stands alone in a field where wheat has started to grow. There is a mainly clear blue sky with a few wispy clouds. Beyond the tree a hedgerow runs parallel with the horizon and a few oak trees stand on the horizon at the top of a slope. A footpath runs from the foreground, up the middle of the field passing the oak and vanishing over the brown of the hill. Stratfield Mortimer at its finest spring brightness.

My 72nd bird in the village this year was Mandarin Duck. A pair flew along the hedgerow down the slope in this photo.
I've been out daily looking for Wheatear or other migrants, without success so far. They're just down the road but I'm hoping they'll visit my patch.

Antarctic 12-month running mean is the highest on record.

You can purchase an ultra high-carbon tour there at the Birdfair.

4-5 years of your carbon budget in one blast. You know you’re worth it.
