This Black Guillemot egg is a dull white and boldly marked with dark spots and blotches. It has a hole in its side revealing blood-red remains of the developed embryo. It sits at the aperture of a nesting crevice in a sandstone cliff. Hopefully it was pushed out after hatching, and the chick is safely ensconsed in the nest.

They are not the best flyers but when they do a touchdown on water they surf.
And they can dive as deep as 45 meters.
