“Think you’re escaping and run into yourself. Longest way round is the shortest way home.” James Joyce, Ulysses. My favourite quote, revisited on Bloomsday.

Acabo de colocar sobre la mesa del despacho mis dos ejemplares del ULYSSES de #JamesJoyce solo para recordar que es un heroico superviviente de una de las mayores cazas de brujas de la historia de la literatura.
¡Feliz #Bloomsday2025!

We've made a new, annotated PDF of Joyce's second poetry collection. Download it free from www.themadridreview.com He wrote it in Dublin, Trieste and Zurich #bloomsday2025 It's short n fascinating!
An image showing the entire facade of a terrace of two storey red brick houses on Arbour Hill, Stoneybatter, dating from the late 19th century, or very early 20th century. The terrace goes from No. 20, on the right hand side, up to No. 29 on the left. Each house has a bay-window at ground level, and a recessed porch area at the entrance door. All the houses are set back slightly from the footpath, separated with a small boundary wall with metal railings, and piers at the entrance gates to the properties.
The narrator had walked down from "29 Arbour Hill," (the house on the left of this terrace) where an old plumber named Geraghty" lived, and who was refusing to reimburse a grocer "by the name of Moses Herzog."

A photograph looking westward at the junction of Manor Street with Arbour Hill in Stoneybatter, Dublin. On the right is a mid 18th century brick building which has been painted black. At ground floor this is a bar called the Belfry, with 2 floor of accommodation overhead. The building has a straight parapet to the street, and a chimney piece is visible to the right of the building. On the left corner is a smaller, but equally old building, previously a hairdresser unit at ground floor, with a corner entrance, with an apartment overhead. A heritage street lamp stands outside the building. Arbour Hill goes west from here, and comprises of a mix of single and two story houses. A slight turn to the right is visible at the center of the image.
"I was just passing the time of day with old Troy of the D. M. P. at the corner of Arbour hill there and...who should I see dodging along Stony Batter only Joe Hynes.’

Today is Bloomsday: the day that Ireland's most famous literary protagonist, Leopold Bloom, made his Dublin odyssey.

—God, he said quietly. Isn’t the sea what Algy calls it: a grey sweet mother? The snotgreen sea. The scrotumtightening sea. ‘Epi oinopa ponton.’ Ah, Dedalus, the Greeks. I must teach you. You must read them in the original. ‘Thalatta! Thalatta!’ She is our great sweet mother.

Was fortunate to be in Dublin this morning and I saw a couple of groups of people all dressed up for #Bloomsday2025 #spéirgorm - I have to admit I've never been able to get through the book but maybe one day I'll have another go and be successful. Gorgeous weather for all the hats!
