A gorgeous vintage 1960s 70s one of a kind handmade copper enamel abstract modernist Brushstroke design bowl artwork by American artist/enamelist Gwendolyn Orsinger Anderson (1912-2013) aka Orsini. A striking and quite vivid original enamel artwork by this recognized important American enamel artist! In shades of a contrasting blue and orange with red and green smaller sections, and in a 'brushstroke' design that she did several variations of over the years. Perhaps a nod to the Brushstroke Series of artworks from the 1960s by the American Pop artist, Roy Lichtenstein of NYC. In addition, this artwork is elaborately decorated at back nearly as beautiful as the front! A gorgeous one of a kind creation that will look amazing in just about any decor! (I have another by her from this same series, but in a different color palette - see my store under "Orsini".) Measures 9" diameter by about 1.25" tall at rim. Signed at back with original paper labels as shown in my photos. Excellent vintage condition.

Gwendolyn Anderson, world-renowned artist and enamelist, was born on May 31, 1912, in Riverside, Illinois. Gwen began her artistic career in watercolors, inspired and encouraged by her parents. Her artwork was exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and other galleries, both public and private. In the early 1950’s, Gwen discovered enameling. She was a self-taught artist, experimenting and developing new and creative enameling techniques. Throughout her lifetime, Gwen held numerous one-woman shows and garnered multiple awards. In 1973, Gwen organized the first enamelist guild in the United States, the National Enamelists Society. Gwen was part of the team of artist volunteers and city personnel in 1974 opening the doors of the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA. She was a founding member of the Enamelists Gallery located in the art center, and continued to work at the gallery over the next 30 years. Gwen never grew tired of exploring new horizons. She continued traveling the world, visiting over 100 countries, drawing inspiration from the people and cultures. Gwen combined education and travel through participation in the Elder hostel program. Always eager for new adventures, at age 80 she joined Global Volunteers and traveled over the next several years teaching English and building schools for children in Viet Nam, Turkey, Greece and other countries. A painter, enamel craft worker, teacher and art dealer, she was known as Gwendolyn Orsinger Anderson and later simply as Orsini. Orsini studied at the University California, Los Angeles, 1934-35; University Illinois. (B.S., 1937); Art Institute of Chicago; Norton Gallery & School Art; Eliot O'Hara; University Virginia., 1955. In Illinois, she was Director of the Artist's Mart in 1954, and also was an art teacher at Pekin High School. In Clayton, New York, she was an enameling teacher including at 1,000 Island Museum Craft School in 1966-67; and Cross Creek Ceramics in 1972.
