setup has worked well… grey weather eventually requires recharge but can get back online pretty quick… the bank the 49800mAh #BWPUC
Only just noticed that my #BWPUC has been offline for a month - generally ignore it due to ID errors. It got the following correct though Whooper Swans (November) and Whimbrel (September). Highlight: a Sandwich Tern at night in September over Penicuik! #birdingScotland @lothianrecorder.bsky.social
A belated welcome to the #BWPUC community. I’ve had mine a year. It does OK at differentiating between non-avian sounds and birds. The issue for me (and many others) is its detection of species that just don’t occur here.
Joined the #BWPUC brigade from #Bulgaria the 1st PUC here. #Bulgarianbirds
1st impressions, not too bad, Ravens recorded early morning from dogs barking, Tawney owls from Jackals howling, Bittern from dogs barking, Woodcock from water dripping but on the whole not bad
Can’t understand why #BWPUC sonograms are in the purple/black colour scheme. Too often I can’t see a thing! Here’s a before/after. Took 20 seconds in the app on my phone!
And it’s not just Merlin, the BirdWeather PUC is as buggy as hell (uses BirdNet). It really can’t handle Common Starling and Greylag Geese and my detections are littered with mis-IDs from these two species alone. At least #BWPUC allows me to feedback individual mis-IDs. But will it ever ‘learn’? 🪶
Indeed, I had some noisy Mallards fly over and it didn't pick them up. The main thing is, it is giving me an idea of what's there when I'm out to work or flying over at night, which occasionally includes a new species for the garden. #BWPUC
A highlight this morning, I saw Chiffchaff come up on the app again so went in the garden to check it out, but was greeted by a Raven going over - a garden tick and a huge surprise as I live in a town and they're still rare in Suffolk. The PUC also picked it up #BWPUC
I agree, despite me regularly noting corrections it repeats them. Curlews are always sirens etc. Saying that, it has got some new garden birds this year with Common Sand and Greenshank. Plus a few records of Chiffchaff and a Willow Warbler (NFG) I heard first, and then stayed for four days #BWPUC
Fascinating insight into the movement of Pink-feet over the Cairngorms last night. #bwpuc
I reckon I've seen at least 10k Pinkfeet pass over West Lothian, #BirdingScotland today so far, with many showing up on my #BWPUC app.birdweather.com/soundscapes/...
Hi, hope you had a good day detecting bird sounds.
Your post automatically dropped into the BirdWeather PUC Feed. Any post mentioning the device or tagged #BWPUC will be collected.
Thinking of getting a birdweather puc. Anyone have any idea of the custom charges from Holland to UK? Thanks in advance. #bwpuc
A second remote Birdweather PUC set up at our @ukecn.bsky.social long term monitoring site in the Cairngorms.
I like the #BWPUC as it provides realtime #bioacoustic data whilst reducing data storage and post-processing requirements. It also makes outreach and stakeholder engagement easy!
This one has stumped me, at 3 seconds in. PUC didn’t even give a guess, it was the Goldcrest it picked up. #BWPUC

#BWPUC - anyone know how to fix overlooked species? I have Baltimore Orioles at my feeder (Massachusetts) and the PUC barely records them. Also pretty sure we don’t have bluebirds.
It’s disappointing that after a couple of months of correctly IDing Whimbrel, my BirdWeather PUC is now consistently mistaking Redshank for them 🤷🏻♂️ And Coal Tits are back (always Wren) 🙄

Great story! If anything good came from Covid and testing, we got a lot of background in False Negative and False Positive. Helps with understanding #BWPUC, BirdNET and Merlin 😊
Aye, my #BWPUC was telling me for several days that I had a Dunnock in the garden. I disbelieved it as they’re so scarce and I’ve only had two records here previously. But on day four there was a Shnnock hopping about under the bushes. My bad! But the PUC continues to make mis-IDs daily here 😒
This is really helpful John, thanks. Now considering which rares to add to the Fife Ness #BWPUC
A couple night migrants, following a resident night owl, and followed by the true early bird around here! #BWPUC
An avenue of sycamore trees showing relatively little leaf and most of the trees still to leaf up. Westray, Orkney Isles, 8 May 2025
A lone sycamore tree with barely a leaf on it. Westray, Orkney Isles, 8 May 2025
Apart from a Marsh Harrier briefly on the loch below the house, an obvious clear out of passerines and waders. The #BWPUC picked up a distinct movement of Whimbrel overnight so it was clearly a night for shopping out and getting on. Trees here still get to leaf up ahead of peak weeks #WestrayBirding
This was recorded early this morning on my #BWPUC. Is the last bird calling a cirl bunting? #nocmig #ukbirding
My PUC has picked them up, unfortunately I haven't managed to connect yet! #BWPUC
Great to hear the swifts back over my Plymouth garden today! Love my BirdWeather PUC! #BWPUC #ukbirding
app.birdweather.com/soundscapes/... We usually have a couple of (silent) Blackcap in the garden during the winter, but now 1 appears to have set up home for the summer (Woodpigeon, House Sparrow + Dunnock also on recording) #BWPUC 🙂
Hi! If you mention BirdWeather PUC in posts they’ll drop into the dedicated Feed here on Bsky. Or you can use the tag #BWPUC. The Feed is there for us all to share with and learn from other PUC users.
Screenshot of the BirdWeather PUC app for my Westray, Orkney Isles station showing a total of 1893 detections of 25 species for 18 April 2025.
As spring spring’s the number of species and total detections continued to creep up near daily, especially on finer days such as today as the wind isn’t interfering with the PUC mics (cos the device is sheltered from west to north winds). Only two detections of two species incorrect. #BWPUC
Another nocmig wader call - a Golden Plover - not the first time it’s been recorded here but the best recording so far. I’m hardly getting any overnight calls - not sure if that’s the reality or a limitation of the #BWPUC app.birdweather.com/soundscapes/...
