Lovely morning #birdringing (under licence) before work, a mixture of late winter visitors and early summer migrants #cambsbirds
Big mistake to use my free hit (Mrs M is having a Spa day) to go to the Nene washes in horrendous weather conditions. Blizzard, freezing!
6 PF Geese over, 30 Whooper swans and a few Marsh Harrier, but I couldn’t see much as it was driving snow and absolutely freezing 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

16 Russian White-fronted Geese and 141 Pink-footed Geese just south of Wisbech St Mary, early afternoon #cambsbirds
I'm quite old school, so I still get a buzz from seeing a Great White Egret, even more so when it's on the patch. One in fields just east of Mill Hill Garage (March) this morning. #cambsbirds #ukbirding

Putting the (wheelie) bins out, a flock of barnacle geese has just gone over the house (March, ✔️NFG!). Unfortunately no phone to hand to record them. Wild birds, perhaps, displaced by Storm Bernard (or whatever the name is 😂)? #cambsbirds
Bypassed the 2 county rares this morning 🤦🏻♂️ for a failed attempt at the Lesser Yellowlegs at Etton Maxey pits.
Probably hunkered down in the corner somewhere as Storm Amy was rattling through.
Did manage a Rock Pipit and a Greenshank though.

It was great to see the Lesser Yellowlegs – and get pics – at Etton, Cambs on 28th September. Also good to meet @weedonsworld.bsky.social #wader #shorebird #cambsbirds
There's been a light, but steady passage of Crossbill over the house (March) during the last few weeks. Mostly 1s and 2s, most mornings, but today saw the first group over. Is this localised movement, or reaching any further in Cambs/elsewhere? #cambsbirds
A reeling Grasshopper Warbler last night, just west of the a141 in March, was a welcome patch tick. Flyover garden Crossbill just now too... autumn birding.. #cambsbirds

Had to drop Mrs. Prof close to Grafham Water this morning. So what’s a boy to do? 🤷🏻♂️

I'm south and visiting fam and yday I was at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough with my sis and my four nieces and nephews. Wow! I used to go near daily in the early 2000s but have been for what, 15+ years and it's matured a bit! 😂 #CambsBirds
There were several pairs of Bearded Reedlings at RSPB Ouse Fen this morning, but they were very camera-shy, foraging at the base of the reeds. In contrast, the Reed Buntings displayed rather well. #Cambsbirds
Also, continuing drake Smew from Cadbury Hide. Plus showy Barn Owl & Great Egret #ukbirding #cambsbirds
