They didn’t drive off the cliff. That was always the rumour, of course, the dramatic ending, the freeze frame, the canyon. But those who know Thelma and Louise well enough will tell you the truth: at the last second, they turned the car around. They drove back. Found a blanket. A patch of morning sun. And each other. Now they lie here on a Saturday, shoulders touching, faces tucked in that particular way that says we have been through things together and come out the other side. The sun falls across them in long amber sheets, turning Ginger’s fur to gold and warming the dark depths of Bonnie’s coat until the rust and copper glow through. They are so alike in this light, the same patchwork of shadow and fire, you could almost believe they are one creature, folded neatly in half. No open road. No sirens. No cliff edge. Just this: two tortoiseshells on a bluish blanket, the whole morning ahead of them, utterly indifferent to everything that isn’t the warmth of the sun and the steady breathing of the other.

A garden with some green grass, and a metal rail running approx 12 inches from the ground. Over the rail is balanced an old piece of hardboard which become bent into a U shape through being constantly damp, making a rudimentary tunnel for the cats to play under and on top of. Hiding under the hardboard is a small black and white cat, waiting to pounce on a playmate.
Don't tell anyone I'm here - I'm going to jump out on someone.

I put this old, bent piece of hardboard over this rail for Lightning to play with and it ended up serving many generations of cats.
