We need an agile, highly and rapidly adaptable healthcare system that will be pro-active rather than reactive to help us and help everyone who are not able to get patient-centered care right now
#CCRC2025 #Cancer #Advocacy #NewfoundlandAndLabrador 16/
4) What does patient-centered healthcare mean to you?
At first it sounds empowering where as a patient we would be actively involved in healthcare decisions
It does not always happen, sadly..

For example, breast cancer screening age in NL has been reduced to 40 last year by the government of NL

Systemic advocacy is beneficial and it works where a group of people and organizations advocate at the government level to change things for the better

So wrong to load this extra work on patients, folks
Rather, we need a healthcare system that ADVOCATES for patients
A system that will say:
Here are what I can do for you - How can I help you?

There are many group of folks who CANNOT access the healthcare
Do we really expect them to advocate for themselves in a system that they cannot even access??

Many folks cannot advocate for themselves, have noone to advocate for them to get the care they deserve
? right?

if so, how do you feel about it?
Why is this extra work loaded on you?
if you are like me, you trust the system would already give you what you deserve?

Cancer symptoms are often unspecific and can only be verified by further medical procedures
Cancer is not an old folks' disease - it can hit anyone including young folks

This data in turn can empower people at risk (young folks, in this case) and may be used to change healthcare, funding, and other resource allocations to address the impact of this trend on Canadians
