Barra of Mendocino Reserve Chardonnay 2024, Mendocino, California LUNCH WINE Dark gold in color. Nice nose of apples, oak, light vanilla, spices, toast, herbs and light earth notes. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with citrus, apples, oak, herbs, light vanilla, light earth and light spices. Tangy finish with apples and limes. This interesting Chardonnay from California is drinking very nicely right out of the bottle. Nicely balanced and complex, with a nice mouthfeel. Spicy, lighty creamy and entertaining. Would be nice to revisit this Single Vineyard Chardonnay in a couple of years, and see how it evolves. I've had a few vintages of this Chardonnay and this one is showing much better than the others. Elegant and easy drinking. Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. I paired it with Chicken Fajita. 100% Chardonnay grapes where hand picked and aged for 9 months on the lees in (25% new) French oak barrels. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $24.

Ontario Chardonnay Review: Tawse Quarry Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2023 My next wine for my Ontario Chardonnay Review comes from Tawse Winery, located in the Twenty Mile Bench area of the Niagara Peninsula.  I received their Tawse Quarry Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2023 for the review.  They farm organically, although I didn't notice an organic symbol on the wine label.  This vineyard has been certified organic since 2008.  Here are my notes for this wine.

It's always good to have more than one bottle, especially if the wine is as good as ths 2020 Chardonnay Savoie AOP from Domaine Dupasquier. Pairs excellently with this special rice dish.

Ingredients for the rice: dates, bacon, garlic, onion, sweet pepper (and rice, water, salt, olive oil).

To add flovor to the dish I cook the rice with 2/3 water and 1/3 ayurvedic ginger tea. For the last two minutes I season with chili, lime juice and rapeseed oil aromatized with boubon vanilla.

Provenance Vineyards Carneros Chardonnay 2016, California Dark gold in color. Fruity nose of bruised apples, melons, light tropical fruits, light spices, oak and light herbs. Full-bodied with medium minus acidity. Dry on the palate with lemons, overripe citrus fruits, spices, light earth, light oak and white pepper. Tangy finish with lemons and spices. This 10 year old Chardonnay is still drinking very nicely, with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel. Elegant and buttery. Spicy and good by itself as a sipping wine. Grapes were aged in (35% new) French Oak barrels for 12 months. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $25 (at release).

The Walls Vineyards Stanley Groovy Don't Explain Chardonnay 2024, Yakima Valley, Washington State Yellow in color with a golden hue. Fruity nose of citrus, apples, lemons, pears, light earth, oak, spices and light honey notes. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate and fruit forward with yellow apples, oak, light vanilla, spices, earth, herbs and minerals. Nice length on the finish with lemons and light marzipan. This is a very tasty Chardonnay from Yakima Valley in Washington State. Creamy, spicy and entertaining. Nicely balanced with a buttery mouthfeel. Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years and see how it evolves. This Single Vineyard Chardonnay is good by itself as a sipping wine, and a good for parties or the pool. 100% Chardonnay grapes were aged in stainless steel, concrete egg vats and oak barrels for 10 months on the lees. 13.7% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $35.

2020 Chardonnay Savoie AOP Domaine Dupasquier, 13%, flavors of ripe apple, pear, and a bit of quince, fine harmonious acidity. Excellent wine which pairs excellently with the dumplings and the veal.

Potato dumpling with strips of veal meat (Geschnetzeltes). Ingredients of sauce include shallots, garlic, roasted and pureed mirepoix and champignons, chicken and beef broth, cream and a small cup of coconut milk. I season with salt, pepper, tarragon, a whiff of cilantro and a glug of cider vinegar. YUMMY!
