Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim. Fruity nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Showing black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, chocolates, toast, licorice, spices, earth, tobacco and herbs. Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Merlot based blend from Bordeaux. Rich and extracted. Nicely balanced and complex. This 16 year old is starting to drink at its peak now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Wine Advocate 96 points. Wine Spectator 96 points. I've had the 2012 a few years ago, but this 2010 vintage is showing so much better. Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, so be patient. Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. A blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 17 months in French Oak barrels. Unfiltered and unfined. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $180.

2018 Theokrat from Weingut Physiokrat is a German Bordeaux blend, and it's one of the best, especially vintage 2018. The blend consists of Merlot, Cabernet Franc(CF) and Cabernet Sauvignon (CS). Physiokrat is a small winery with only 1.2 ha planted with the typical Bdx grapes Merlot, CS, CF and a little bit of Syrah. The vineyard is located in the Baden region, sub-region Kraichgau, town Dietlingen (Keltern). Due to its high quality and low harvest yield of 1.2 ha the Physiokrat wines are rare.

This Merlot from Lalande de Pomerol in Bordeaux is spicy and entertaining. Nicely balanced and complex. Drinking very nicely now, as a 6 year old, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years. Needs an hour in the decanter to open up, but showing a pretty nose right out of the bottle. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. Kosher and not Mevushal. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $50.
