Fidelitas Wines Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, Washington State Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Strong fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, black pepper, eucalyptus and black tea. Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and fruit forward on the palate with black plums, cherries, black currants, peppercorn, cola, light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, earth and tobacco leaf. Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This 9 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain in Washington State is drinking beautifully now. Elegant and nicely balanced, with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Rich and extracted, fruit forward and smooth. Drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. I had this vintage 5 years ago, and it is drinking much better now. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes of airtime. Bold, delicious and good by itself as a sipping wine. Will also pair nicely with a nice piece of steak. I paired it with a charcuterie board and it paired beautifully with the Italian prosciutto. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (93% new) French Oak barrels for 22 months. 15% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $55 (at release).

This is a delicious Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast. Rich and fruit forward. Elegant and complex. Nicely balanced and easy drinking, with a nice mouthfeel. This 12-year-old Pinot Noir is drinking beautifully now, and drinking at its peak. Will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. Wine Advocate 95 points. Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim. Fruity nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Showing black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, chocolates, toast, licorice, spices, earth, tobacco and herbs. Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Merlot based blend from Bordeaux. Rich and extracted. Nicely balanced and complex. This 16 year old is starting to drink at its peak now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Wine Advocate 96 points. Wine Spectator 96 points. I've had the 2012 a few years ago, but this 2010 vintage is showing so much better. Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, so be patient. Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. Rich and elegant, with enough fruits to compliment the earth notes. Spicy and entertaining. This 18 year old is drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. Full-bodied and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs. Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries. This 17 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is still drinking beautifully. Rich and engaging. Elegant, soft and fruit forward. Beautifully balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Needed 90 minutes in the bottle to open up properly and show great complexity, with good structure. This gorgeous Cabernet is still drinking at its peak, but will not get better from this point on. Will continue to drink nicely in the next 7 years. Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Fruit forward and elegant. Spicy and entertaining. Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. Complex and engaging, with a soft mouthfeel. Really enjoyed the nose here. This 5 year old Cabernet based Bordeaux blend is already drinking beautifully, and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 to 10 years. Nose of raspberries, cherries, light cedar, spices, light earth, herbs and chocolate notes. Medium bodied with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with cherries, sweet raspberries, light oak, licorice, tobacco, herbs, dark chocolates, black pepper, earth and black tea. Tangy finish with soft tannins and cranberries. This young Pinot Noir from Oregon is starting to drink nicely now. Elegant and complex, with a soft mouthfeel. Spicy and entertaining. Nicely balanced with lots of earth notes to compliment the fruits. A New World Pinot Noir with an old world feel. Interesting stuff. This Single Vineyard Pinot Noir will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years and see how it evolves. Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with lemons, red apples, light limes, yeast, light herbs, minerals and spices. Nice length on the finish with tangy limes. This is a delicious 8 year old Sparkling wine from Eola-Amity Hills in Oregon. Elegant and nicely balanced. Fruit forward and complex. Rich and entertaining. Wine Enthusiasts 91 points. This Single Vineyard sparkling is easy drinking and good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. 100% Chardonnay grapes were aged on the lees for 5 years. A small production of only 450 cases. 12.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $60.

Adelsheim Vineyard Calkins Lane Vineyard Syrah 2021, Chehalem Mountains, Oregon Reddish/ purplish in color with medium intensity. Nose of black currants, fresh cherries, light oak, barnyard and light blood notes. Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with cherries, currants, plums, light oak, spices, dark chocolates, earth, light vegetables, bitter herbs and peppercorn. Spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a very interesting Syrah from Williamette Valley in Oregon. Feels like a new world Syrah with a Northern Rhone touch. This Single Vineyard Syrah is nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Complex and entertaining. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. Paired very nicely with my charcuterie board, especially with the Italian salami. 100% Syrah grapes were aged in (25% new) French Oak barrels for 14 months. A small production of only 2,200 bottles. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $55.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with cherries, raspberry compote, plums, tobacco, chocolates, light oak, black tea and spices. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This 3-year-old Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley is starting to drink very nicely now. Fruit forward and elegant. Rich and buttery. Still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 to 10 years. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Soft and smooth. Tangy and interesting. Feels like a California Pinot Noir. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of airtime. It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. There are always exceptions to the rule! Usually known as a Cabernet Sauvignon based blend, but this vintage is Merlot based. Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim. Strong nose of black currants, blackberries, plums, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, black pepper and tobacco leaf. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with blueberries, blackberries, black currants, cherries, light oak, spices, chocolates, herbs, coffee, licorice, tobacco leaf, peppercorn, earth and black tea. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Merlot based blend from Bordeaux. Elegant and nicely balanced. Complex and engaging. Rich and powerful, but not extracted. This 8 year old First Growth Bordeaux is starting to drink nicely, but feels very young and closed. Needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly, but already very complex and delicious by itself. Will continue to age nicely in the 25 years. Showing good structure and quality, fruit-forward, elegant, and soft. Evolved beautifully in the glass, and gained depth and complexity as it opened up. I had its brother/cousin, château Mission Haut-Brion, recently and it is not as earthy as the Mission was. Tasting these kind of wines at this early stage, is always hard, but someone's got to do it. A great sipping wine, that will also pair nicely with food. A blend of 53% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (70% new) French oak barrels for 18 months. 14% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $550.
