Coming in just under the wire, but it's not quite 11 PM my time....so here's a wild Turkey showing its tail for the #BirdoftheDay theme of #BirdButts. Taken just today! #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WillametteValley #Oregon
Domaine Serene Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir 2021, Willamette Valley, Oregon Ruby in color with medium intensity and a wide reddish rim. Fresh red berries on the nose and medium in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Showing fresh cherries, sweet raspberries, light wood, tobacco, black pepper, chocolates, spices, light earth and herbs. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This young Pinot Noir from Oregon is starting to drink nicely now, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Rich and fruity, smooth and spicy. Nicely balanced and complex, soft and elegant. I've had a few vintages of this Pinot Noir and it is so much better with age. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Wine Enthusiasts 93 points. Robert Parker 93 points. Wine Spectator 92 points. A good quality wine. Good right out of the bottle, and better with some airtime. Interesting, easy drinking and a good sipping wine. Pinot Noir grapes were aged in (55% new) French oak barrels for 16 months. 14.1% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $95.

For Alan's theme of #Warblers for the #BirdoftheDay, here's an Orange-crowned Warbler I saw the other day. They're more understated than many of their relatives, but this one looked so good among the blossoms of a Bigleaf Maple. #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WillametteValley #Oregon
Darn allergies and runny nose 😭
That said, his dr said I am doing everything perfectly in regards to treatment. She commiserated with him about chapped lips and thought the Vasaline barrier was a great move on my part, lol. bless

For the #BirdoftheDay theme of #SmallBirdsinFlight, here's a Black Tern. These beauties have a small nesting colony in a marsh south of me, and I try to make it there a few times a year, at least once when the Terns are around! #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WillametteValley #Oregon

Drove from the mid #WillametteValley to the #BayArea yesterday. We made pretty good time! Surprised at how hot it is this week out here.

This Turkey Vulture posed so nicely for me while sunning itself on top of a snag. Seen on my walk through the local park yesterday. These birds migrate, and are one of the early, obvious signs of Spring returning. #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WillametteValley

It's #WoodpeckerWednesday! Here's a very accommodating Hairy Woodpecker from last week. One of two very similar species (Downy is the other) found across the US, the Hairy WP can be determined by larger size and noticeably larger bill. #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WillametteValley

A perfect, deep red Camellia blossom. Pretty much the earliest flowers to bloom around the #WillametteValley, and so while not a native plant they do provide a nice early food source for bees and hummingbirds. #Photography #bloomscrolling
For Rob's alt theme of #Robins for today's #BirdoftheDay, here's a couple American Robins from my local park. #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WIllametteValley #Oregon
More recent bird pics... Spring is springing here, and while we haven't had many migrants show up yet, our wintering birds sure are getting lively... case in point, this Golden-crowned Kinglet that showed nicely! #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WillametteValley #Oregon
Found this Red-tailed Hawk perched on a roof at Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge on Wednesday. I sure wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that beak! #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WillametteValley #Oregon
For today's #BirdoftheDay theme of #SideView, here's a recent one of a White-throated Sparrow foraging on a branch behind a curtain of hanging lichen. These adorable little birds are uncommon Winter visitors here, and, being... 1/2 #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WillametteValley #Oregon
For Alan's theme of #PrimaryColours for the #BirdoftheDay, I have one of each! A gorgeous Red-breasted Sapsucker; the bright yellow of a Horned Lark; and a brilliant Western Bluebird! All also appropriate for #SmallBirdSaturday. #Nature #Photography #Birds #PNWBirding #WillametteValley #Oregon
