Chateau Les Graves de Lavaud Lalande de Pomerol 2020, France It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back! Dark ruby/ inky in color with a reddish rim. Nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, licorice, tobacco, light earth, herbs, spices and light aluminum. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, currants, light wood, coffee, black tea, herbs, peppercorn, light earth and spices. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This Merlot from Lalande de Pomerol in Bordeaux is spicy and entertaining. Nicely balanced and complex. Drinking very nicely now, as a 6 year old, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years. Needs an hour in the decanter to open up, but showing a pretty nose right out of the bottle. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. Kosher and not Mevushal. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $50.

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Dry on the palate with mild complexity. Showing red fruits with earth, light wood, spices and coffee. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. Tasty and easy drinking. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in (20% new) French Oak barrels for 12 months. 14% alcohol by volume. 88 points.
