It's with profound sadness that I have to share that Dean Martin, a nearly charter member of the USF Chemistry department, passed away this morning. 93 Years young, Dean came to @usf.edu in 1964 and had in invaluable impact on our department and countless alumni. #chemsky
Simple bath readies lithium-metal anodes for long-range EVs Quick water-based etch of metal surface prevents growth of battery-shorting dendrites. by Prachi Patel. A row of electric cars plugged in at charging stations with trees and flowering bushes in the background. Credit: Shutterstock.
Lithium-metal anodes could double the distance that electric cars can go on a full charge. A simple wet-chemical treatment, described in a new study, advances that possibility: cen.acs.org/energy/energ...

- I have couple of minerals in my collection that our geologists do not have. I got them from food supplements…

Graphical abstract for a scientific article titled Layered solid Brønsted acid for dynamic interfacial pH regulation toward durable zinc anodes.
⚡ Dendrites, hydrogen evolution, unstable pH - what if the fix isn’t in the electrolyte, but at the surface itself?
This paper explores a layered solid acid coating that stabilizes zinc anodes by regulating interfacial pH and suppressing side reactions ➡️ https://rsc.li/3PSLahB #ChemSky

An infographic titled 'The chemistry of tulips and tulip fingers' explains allergic contact dermatitis from tulips. It defines 'tulip fingers' as redness, eczema, or pustules from handling bulbs or flowers. Two chemical structures are presented: 6-tuliposide A and its breakdown product tulipalin A, which are identified as the skin-reaction triggers. Tulipalins are also stated to act as a defense against soil fungi. Below the text is a vibrant row of fresh red and yellow tulips with green leaves.
On #NationalGardeningDay, here's a look at the chemistry behind why planting the tulips which are blooming at the moment might be hard on your hands: www.compoundchem.com/2018/04/25/t... 🌷 #ChemSky 🧪

A summary of aldol-like reactions, listing the most common examples found in many UG courses. There is an attempt to add some mechanisms to this, but not much. Not much in the way of explanation either. It is just a list!
A summary of aldol-like reactions, listing the most common examples found in many UG courses. It is purely a list and not very exciting. Might be a revision aid. Might not (it was a stop gap as I was too busy to put together proper summary!).
Breaking radio silence with 2x #ChemEd #Chemistry #ChemSky summaries of aldol-like rcts. These are just lists of reactions without the explanation of the last couple of summaries. One tries to include mechanisms. More a stop gap than anything else.
Hopefully, someone will find them useful. Enjoy.
