The @USDA reports that an infusion of #coyotebrush used as a general remedy by the #CostanoanIndians. A
decoction prepared from the leaves was a remedy for #poisonoak rash used by the #ChumashIndians on the Santa Ynez Reservation in the late 1950s. https://plants.usda.gov/plantguide/pdf/pg_bapi.pdf

#Coyotebrush is resistant to #fire. Due to prolific production of #winddispersed #seeds and ease of germination of the seeds on a variety of soil types, coyotebrush can colonize burned areas following fires. Once established, plants are extremely #drought tolerant.

#Coyotebrush seedling growth is poor in the shade. #Coastliveoak, #Californiabay, #Rhusintegrifolia, & other shade producing species replace coastal #sagescrub and other coyote bush-dominated areas, particularly when there hasn't been a wildfire or heavy grazing.
