Picture of the main entrance to 'The Red Lion Hotel'. It is decorated with terracotta coloured, heavily embossed and glazed tiling around the window surrounds and the door frame, even the pub name above the door is made from glazed tile. The door pillars are inset with duck egg blue tiles depicting Bacchus (God of wine and fertility). The Red Lion originally stood opposite the Potteries Electric Traction Tramway Depot in Stoke-on-Trent. It was demolished in the early 1970’s but the facade was carefully taken down brick by brick by members of the Tramway Society and was eventually rebuilt at Crich using original materials wherever possible and reopened in 2002 at a cost of £500,000. It’s now just one of the buildings that line the street and provide an authentic setting for the street tramway cars.
