Mao otter laying on his belly, big rear visible along with his big tail. Staring at you through his round glasses with a smirk. Of course with the expected neckerchief. Wearing a pair of arm gloves and stockings as well as a tailstocking. All entirely covered by blue hued patterns of flowers, plants and scenes from The Netherlands. In this case one with a boat on the water. The other a windmill. All styled on "Delfts Blauw". Known in English as Delftware or Delft Blue.

Delfts Blauw Mao.~

A lil idea I had. This might be the most Dutch drawn I've done.

“With plumage finely delineated in famille-rose enamels and gilding, his black beak open as if to crow, modeled standing on a green conformingly-shaped low mound base.”

“This model must have been taken from either a late 17th century Japanese Arita porcelain original…or equally likely, a Dehua blanc-de-Chine figure of circa 1700…Given the extensive trade by the Dutch East India Company (V.O.C.) with both Japan and China at this time, it is possible that either model served as the prototype for the present cockerel. The decoration is most likely to have been inspired by the early Chinese famille-rose porcelains of the Yongzheng Period (1723- 35). To achieve this delicate palette on tin-glazed earthenware, the enamels and gilding had to be fired at a lower temperature in a ‘muffle kiln,’ and the technique is referred to as ‘petit feu.’”

The image displays a square, antique Dutch Delft tile, predominantly in shades of blue and white, with a central octagonal panel depicting a detailed landscape scene. The border of the tile features intricate floral motifs and patterned designs, characteristic of Delftware. Two figures wearing wide-brimmed hats are visible on a sandy or muddy shoreline in the lower right. One figure appears to be digging or collecting something from the ground, while the other sits nearby. A body of water stretches across the middle of the scene. A sailboat is on the water to the left. On the far shore, several buildings are depicted, including a tiered lighthouse tower. Other structures, perhaps houses, stand near the tower, nestled among trees on a slight incline.

Can anyone identify anything about this shard of pottery(?) my fianceè found on the shore of Lake Michigan a few years ago? I think its #delftware maybe? But I'm not sure. I just think it's neat.

My other love, ceramics.
This series started out with the idea of making a bowl of fruit bowls, but branched out somewhere along the way. The pear and the bong have sold, but the banana is still available. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested.

Progress on a commission (detail). This vase is an existing Delft Blue piece produced in 1685; it has wonderful intricate details.

First attempt putting some flowers in the vase. Of course they don't have to be tulips. When vases like these were properly dressed with expensive flowers in the 1600s into the 1700s they must have looked incredible, like a tree of flowers.

This leaping hound is on a #Dutch #delftware tile of c.1750. There's charming economy of line, sparkling detail (those paws) and the still vivid blue of Delftware to enjoy in this bit of everyday #18thc plateelschilder's art.
