My morning walk with George today was all about Hover Flies, Drone Flies & Bees.

#Eristalis is a large genus of #hoverflies, family #Syrphidae, in the order #Diptera. Several species are known as #droneflies because they bear a resemblance to #honeybeedrones.

A fully open yellow dandelion with a small insect feeding at the left edge of the beautiful flower, an essential food source in spring.

"There is beauty in extreme old age", sang Katisha in The Mikado (Gilbert & Sullivan) and this image is of a dandelion definitely in old age with a fringe seeds ready to disperse. The seeds are still attached but will fly away on the slightest breeze supported by their feathery parachutes.
