Ken Tryon Photography Portfolio - Dublin Zoo A few more photos from the zoo

Most folks don’t know that Amur tigers are the largest big cat. Lions are posers. 😏

BTW, visited the #DublinZoo last August. Rainy day but still got some decent pics.

A high-angle, close-up shot of a large tiger sleeping on a bed of grey gravel. The tiger's head is resting to the left, eyes closed in deep sleep. Its front paws are crossed in the foreground, showing the detailed texture of the large, dark toe pads and thick fur. The fur is a vibrant orange with distinct black stripes and white patches around the neck and paws. The lighting is soft and natural, highlighting the textures of the fur and the stones.

Shhh... the king is sleeping. 🐅💤 I captured this peaceful moment at Dublin Zoo. The size of those paws!!!

Our photograph shows a magical night-time walkway in the gardens of Dublin Zoo during their light festival.

The scene is set against a deep black sky, making the illuminated sculptures glow intensely and stand out dramatically.

Running along the right-hand side of the path is a row of large, flower-shaped light sculptures mounted at regular intervals on a low railing.

The closest flower dominates the foreground. It is bold and radiant, made up of thick, rounded petals that glow in shades of fiery red and warm orange.

Each petal is outlined with thin dark borders that define their shape clearly. Inside some of the red petals are curved white sections edged with pale blue, giving the flower a layered, decorative appearance.

At the centre of the flower is a bright golden-yellow diamond shape that appears to shine like a jewel.

The flowers are constructed from translucent material, likely fabric or plastic stretched over frames, so the internal lights create a soft, even glow rather than a harsh glare.

The light radiates warmly, casting a gentle sheen on the nearby railing and ground. Further down the walkway, identical glowing flowers repeat into the distance, each slightly smaller as they recede, creating a sense of depth and rhythm.

Their red and orange light forms a luminous trail guiding the eye forward. The path itself is dark, possibly paved, and the surrounding garden fades into shadow.

In the far background to the left, faint blue lights suggest other illuminated displays among trees or garden features, adding contrast to the dominant reds and golds in the foreground.

Overall, the atmosphere feels festive and enchanting. The bright floral lanterns transform the zoo gardens into a glowing corridor of colour, warm and inviting against the cool darkness of the Dublin night.

Finally, our picture is finished with a simple white border frame.

A striking, close-up profile view of a snow leopard’s face, captured in high detail. The image highlights the texture of the animal’s thick white and grey fur, speckled with dark rosettes, and its long, delicate white whiskers. The leopard gazes calmly to the left, its dark eye sharp and focused. In the background, a blurred wire fence is visible, suggesting a zoo enclosure, while soft, moody lighting accentuates the contours of the big cat's nose and muzzle.

This snow leopard at Dublin Zoo radiated pure calm, just watching the world go by. Capturing this level of detail on a phone still absolutely blows my mind. #photography #EastCoastKin #DublinZoo #smartphonephotography #nature

Two very tolerant #siamang adults and a playful juvenile at the #DublinZoo hanging out roughly 50' (15 meters) above the ground. Why do they make me think of the early Beatles?

More photos from #Ireland! More #monochrome! No animals this time but the moat around the macaque island. It was an overcast and rainy day, and keeping the cloud texture in the sky adds visual interest.

Saw a mom and baby at the Dublin Zoo in late August (they weren't zoo animals, just hanging out there). Baby's feet are ridiculously huge. 😏 Little guy was looking quite bedraggled in the rain.

Our picture shows a brilliant light art piece with colourful lit upside down Chinese umbrellas and butterflies in one of the walkways of Dublin Zoo’s gardens for their light festival held in 2019.

The main figure in our picture is a stylise representation of an oriental woman in a flowing yellow golden robe with a blue sash and a lotus blossom in her brown hair.

She is encapsulated by a yellow and red circle behind her and the whole giant lantern is made of wire and fabric lit from within.

Above this massive lantern and to the right is a hanging ceiling of suspended upside down umbrellas that are opened. They are in various different colours of red, blues, greens and yellows. They also have ornate butterflies that are intersperse between them and all of these are once again lit from behind.

In the far background of this picture, there is also various trees that have been wrapped in ropes of light in various colours as people walk off down this lit “avenue” within the gardens.

The sky is inky black and the whole picture is finished off with a thick white border frame.

When you jab been emailing #DublinZoo for over a week about accessibility info and they don't answer or acknowledge the emails.

It's infuriating and also an accessibility issue in and of it's self.

A close-up, eye-level shot of a tiger's head and shoulders in profile, looking towards the left of the frame. The tiger has its eyes closed, conveying a sense of peaceful rest or contemplation. Its vibrant orange fur with distinct black stripes is clearly visible, as are its white cheeks and whiskers. In the foreground, a large, dark, textured rock or mound is present. The background is softly blurred, showing muted greens and browns, suggesting foliage and perhaps wood chips on the ground. The lighting highlights the tiger's features, giving the image a rich, detailed quality.

Got here during nap time it seems. The two I have seen (only one in the photo) haven’t moved since I got here.

Also regular reminder that Red Panda is the best animal!
