🪲Last week, Forest Research entomologists presented at the @royentsoc.bsky.social's #Ento25 conference. Topics covered included:
🐛 Oak processionary moth population genetics
🔎 GB-wide monitoring for invasive forest insects
🪳 Using arthropods as indicators for the restoration of peatland
At #Ento25, I signed The Obligation Book as I became a fellow at RES @royentsoc.bsky.social! Same book is signed by Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace! Such an Honour!
I had a fantastic time this week at #Ento25 in Glasgow organized by @royentsoc.bsky.social. I presented a poster based on data generated our PhD student @femi-benny.bsky.social (with @waspwoman.bsky.social)! Thank to @ucl.ac.uk and @uclcber.bsky.social for the funding Research Progression Grant!
Glasgow Convention Bureau
Huge thank you to the Glasgow Convention Bureau team for their outstanding support during #Ento25 🦋
From shaping unforgettable fringe events to offering a warm welcome at a Civic Reception hosted by The Rt Hon The Lord Provost of Glasgow, their expertise and generosity have been greatly appreciated
I was so lucky to have been able to spend my first @royentsoc.bsky.social meeting with this great group I met this summer at an Insect Taxonomy course at @morethanadodo.bsky.social (aka Falk’s Followers). #Ento25
We've really enjoyed having @maximuminsect.bsky.social join us for #EcoNet2025, #Ento25 and for a joint group meeting with @nclneg.bsky.social! See you soon, Max!
I had a great time talking to #Ento25 about peer review! We even had them peer reviewing some mock papers and they all did exceptionally well!
VALOR has been spotted at #Ento25!
Find out more about the project's involvement in the conference soon, in our upcoming news article. 📰💻

We think this must be the Very Short-winged Conehead, Conocephalus brachyptera, since we can't find any wings at all....thanks Glasgow and all at @royentsoc.bsky.social for a fab few days at #ento25!
Pinned Orthoptera specimens in display case.

Laminated info sheet about Buddleia aphid
Last day of #Ento25, with insect ID keys, amazing (and undescribed) wasp galls, bog invert research (what's not to like?) and learning that aphids on our garden Buddleja might be a newly arrived species in the UK.
Big thanks to @royentsoc.bsky.social team for a fab bug-filled event.

#Ento25 our workshop: how to use taxonomic keys had a lot of enthusiasm, ‘some’ frustration #whatisit but with genuine engagement. Featuring test keys: Orthoptera & Dermaptera & of course Carabidae handbook with www.royensoc.co.uk/publications... with specimens from www.nhm.ac.uk/take-part/ce...
Two people standing in front a scientific poster
Great day at #Ento25 yesterday where I had a collaborative poster with Helen James from NMNI. A synthesis of fieldwork looking at under-explored Irish freshwaters to fill in species knowledge gaps. Thanks to NPWS for funding study and to many other contributors. www.royensoc.co.uk/wp-content/u...
Had a great time at #Ento25 with a massive range of topics being presented! Workshop on insect illustration was a highlight this morning. It was great (re)connecting with the UK ento crew as I’ve been abroad for almost 2 years now! 🐜❤️🐜❤️

The ancient city of Glasgow was nice during the Royal Entomological Society Conference #Ento25 at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.
"What goes up, must come down? Interactions between above and below ground herbivores via induced plant defences" 🌾
The third and final plenary of #Ento25 starts now - please welcome Nicole van Dam.

Meet the Speakers at #Ento25 🦋
Grab a coffee and have a chat with our plenary speakers. This is a great opportunity for students to ask questions in a small, informal setting.
Please note that this session will be before Nicole van Dam’s talk.

Final day of #Ento25 and I am stuck in limbo between Edinburgh and Glasgow, as there is a broken down train in front of us :(
At least the view is nice.
