This historic theatre in Denver, Colorado was built in 1915 and took the name Bluebird in the 1920s.

Edits: In Lightroom, I straightened and cropped the image. Then I uploaded it to Firefly and asked for 1930s attire on people. (It erased the existing people and created new ones.)

Back in Lightroom, I removed half of the AI-generated people, as well as the traffic lights, street lights, and bike racks.

Then I tinkered with curves, clarity, texture and mask adjustments in order to lift blacks, soften image and emphasize light emanating from the windows.

Generally, I do not use AI features to create something that was not already there but I broke my own rule for this EraShift challenge.

These theatre patrons have time-traveIed from Firefly to an era that predates traffic signals and bike racks on the sidewalk. The theatre was built in 1915 and took the name Bluebird in the 1920s. See Alt-text for edits.

Welcome to the Tron: Legacy Era. Daft Punk sends their regards.

I used several adjustment layers in Photoshop, but the key is a desaturated Glowing Edges filter and the Darken blend mode.

A color photo of a neon theater marquee called Bluebird. The original photo is by Rock. I have an old snapshot from 1970 that has faded dramatically from light exposure. I tried my best to replicate this by only using Snapseed edits.

Outstanding edit Katherine!! 🤩🤍🩶🖤👍🏼 Love this one 😌👍🏼

Since everyone is mostly wearing black I made it matte black and white to look like newspaper print. 📰

I also added myself to the photo because I'm like that. ✌🏻

I went with giving it a look of more incandescent lighting and from an Instamatic camera that maybe didn’t have such good focus or definition and maybe in a time with a bit of smoke and pollution

There are so many edits...

I used Snapseed to take down the saturation, add the vintage coloration. Then used Google photos on the big screen to adjust contrast and shadows.

For these edits of Rock's photo, I went to my physical archives - boxes of photos taken in the 70's. Who knows what kind of camera, 50 years later. Most of them have this hazy, brown/green look, so that's what I went with.

This photo marked the first time I seriously edited an image in ACDSee Ultimate 2025. It was a challenge, as I come from a school of thought where a photo should, in principle, be perfect in one go – apart from cropping and brightening, that is. I boosted the saturation slightly, shifted the colour tone towards yellow, and adjusted the calibration and partial tone slightly. Finally, I applied vignetting to create a softer transition towards the edges.

My aim in editing this photo was to evoke the atmosphere of a balmy summer evening in the 1960s or 1970s. I softened the harshness of the neon lighting and slightly enhanced other light sources.

Thanks for this initiative to @rjrock.bsky.social and #ECK. It’s been great fun!

I edited the photo by using the tools in my iPhone 16 pro, and underlayed it with the editing option ’cardboard paper’ via the app BeCasso, in order to give it a grittier look.

I cropped the photo rather radically (sorry! 😅) to focus on the couple on the left. They gave me such a 1940s noir vibe that I just couldn’t resist. I only hope I managed to capture at least a little of it.

This photo provided by @rjrock.bsky.social for the #PostProcess challenge #EraShift just felt like an old postcard. The lights wrapped around the lamposts looked Christmasy, hence the Seasons Greetings. See alt text for additional info.

-HSL color edits to take out the red light on the marquee and focus on the blue and yellow on the sign and the ambient light around the theater.
-Image cropped and straightened to show the streetlight on the sidewalk and stop light. I used the horizontal line of lights as the guide.

This one I changed to a dark contrasty bw using NikTools' Silver Efx Pro, and then add grain using the Color Efx Pro. I have a Robert Frank recipe preset, but I didn't use that one for this.

I added the wet plate effect using NikTools' Analog Efx Pro and muted the colors using the same tool. I made a sepia version, but I decided I liked imagining if color were readily available to 19th century photographers, so I went with this one.

So, this will be my first go at the #ECK #PostProcess #EraShift challenge from Rock (@rjrock.bsky.social).

Being me, part photographer and part sci-fi weirdo, I've done 2, both using the Niktools suite. The 1st is reimagined Robert Frank. The 2nd imagines if 19th century wet plates used color.

Edited in Lightroom and Analog Efex plug-in. I'll spare the boring details.
Period costume as I've said is a problem if you want to shift eras. Very time consuming if you want to remove people, although AI could do it in a tick, but we're not going there are we? Not 100% happy with this might have another pop.

Photo of the Bluebird Theater on Colfax Avenue in Denver taken by @rjrock.bsky.social and processed by me to look as though it is a faded physical print of a photo taken in the 1990's.

The image was processed in Darktable. I rotated the image a little to—in theory—give a more straight-on "holiday snapshot" feel. I then increased the exposure a little to counter the darkening that happens during subsequent steps in Darktable. I messed (the best way to describe my editing style!) with Darktable's Tone Equalizer, Color Balance RGB, and Grain modules. Then, in Darktable's Colour Zone module, I lowered the saturation of the blues and greens a little as I noticed they seemed to have degraded much more than anything else on the sample prints I used as a reference.

For @rjrock.bsky.social #Postprocess #Erashift I have to try to go back to early 19 century, and give it the look from a old photo, that i have seen in old photoalbum. Every advice is more than welcome. More in Alt.

Coming from a Darkroom background and early Photoshop I’m constantly experimenting in ways to get digital images to act more like film and paper.
The concept to give an experimental traditional darkroom look with a mid century treatment.
Square aspect ratio like TLR camera of the time
In Snapseed I copied cropped image. Creating a Negative image using curves.
Overlaying positive and negative images and shifting slightly to create Mackie lines.
I adjusted opacity to desired effect. Lastly adjusted a variety of filters until a believable result was attained.

All changes made in my Samsung phone editor.

Street scene outside the Bluebird Cinema, housed in an old art deco style yellow brick building, with period details. The marquee is lit up, and the words on the left side of it are obscured. The words on the right of it are mostly off frame, So only the B of Bluebird and the word SUN is visible. There's a turquoise blue glow coming off the sign against the building, matching the door frame and trim. There's movie posters displayed in frames, with the larger one Back to the Future. Inside the theatre is orange with warm lighting. There's a reflection of lights in one of the upper windows from across the street. A trashcan covered with stickers and an illuminated streetlamp with string lights wrapped around the pole are near the curb to the left of the marquee. On the very left are a couple talking. One has their back to the camera and is looks like they have Marty McFly's orange vest on, which was made using my finger to draw with the Samsung phone editor.
