Monarch Park is Growing! 🌱🪵🍎 https://www.forestr.org/green This Saturday, ForestRs rolled up their sleeves to spread a fresh delivery of mulch across the new Monarch Park space — just in time for last night’s much-needed rain. This mulch layer will help create a thriving ecosystem for insects, worms, and healthy soil life, all built on the rich compost generously donated by our partners at the Castro Valley Sanitary District. ♻️💚 We also planted two new apple trees, marking the first steps toward a public food forest that we hope will begin gifting fruit to the community as early as next year. 🌎 A big day for Dragonfly Park and our Castro Valley community! 🌿 23 ForestRs came out strong, collecting 29 bags of litter and sundry items on a cool, overcast morning — perfect weather for action. The park is now cleaner and ready for Caltrans District 4 to swing by and collect the bags. Huge thanks to our partners at Caltrans, every ForestR who joined, and the many neighbors who honked, waved, and encouraged us along the way! Some of our crew even branched out — cleaning along Castro Valley Blvd and up Marshall Street, where we’ll be launching Monarch Park next weekend at the future Monarch Plaza 🦋 And that’s not all — while we cleaned, others were out gleaning fruit in another part of town 🍊 First we clean. Then we green. And all around — we glean.

🌳 Look what arrived this weekend! A generous ForestR volunteer gifted us two beautiful oak saplings—vibrant, green, and full of promise. We’ll be planting them at a local park next weekend, but couldn’t resist sharing this early peek.
