I’ve updated my little essay about #poets in #Grasmere. My @serenbooks.bsky.social stablemate Rachel Carney reminded me she was a volunteer just before me (which I only found out when we read together at Aberystwyth Poetry Festival 2024). I've filled in more background too. Who else am I missing?

poster advertising the Cumbria local arts exhibition in grasmere village hall from 3rd to 12th April featuring thumbnails of last year's art
One week to go until this event - and I'm in it! Last year we went as visitors, this year I should have four pictures exhibited and for sale. I'm still glowing! Hope to see you there.
(And I've just spotted how appropriate the What 3 Words address is... 🤣)

'I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.' William Wordsworth, from his grave at #Grasmere last week

#Spring is definitely in the air, #light is returning and staying longer, temperatures are higher. Most importantly #daffodils are everywhere! #Grasmere beckons!
Went for a stroll yesterday afternoon around #Grasmere, stopping for a bite to eat in the village. Robin flew over and sat on the fence next to us. #LakeDistrict #RedRobin
And the reward for all that effort was a yummy Indi-Yan dinner at the Yan at Broadrayne (near #Grasmere)
This image features a Border Terrier in a scenic, mountainous landscape. Taken on a cloudy April day at Loughrigg Terrace above Grasmere in the English Lake District, Cumbria. A red-brown Border Terrier stood in a side profile leaning forward with her front legs on a rock. Her hind legs are on the ground. Her head held high and body sloping down at a sharp angle. She stares intently into the distance on the left of the picture as though something has caught her attention. In the background are some of the Central and Eastern Fells with a winding path, trees and green fields lower down in the valley in front of the fells. The blue sky has many white clouds.

A Lakeland landscape scene on a cloudy July day on the shores of Grasmere, Cumbria, England. Grasmere lake is grey with a light ripple of waves. In the foreground are some large rocks partially submerged in the water near the lakeshore. In the background is the far shore of the lake. (Grasmere village is at this northern end). Some of the Central & Eastern Fells rise up above the lake. The sky is full of thick fluffy white and grey clouds.

Grasmere, Cumbria last July on a cloudy day.
Charlotte Brontë wrote in her diary after her visit in 1850: 'The Lake Country is a glorious region, of which I had only seen the similitude in dreams, waking or sleeping'

A conceptual, painterly image of an open book where the pages transform into the rolling, silhouetted fells of Cumbria. Soft morning light catches the edges of the paper, blending into a misty, watercolor sky of slate and pearl. The mood is contemplative and dreamlike, with visible brushstrokes and a focus on the harmony between literature and the natural world.
"The breath of Helm Crag settles on the glass,
Where morning weaves a shroud of silver-grey.*

Photo looking across a grassy field to the edge of a lake where two trees, one large and the other, maybe a fifth its size stand. Beyond, the still water of the lake and hills on the far bank against blue skies.

St. Oswald’s Church at Grasmere in the Lake District. The church and west tower are mostly 14th century in date. Perhaps not the prettiest church, but still medieval! 📸 My own. #SteepleSaturday #StOswalds #Grasmere #LakeDistrict
