Impelled by unseen energy, she moved #toward the door she hadn't noticed before.
"I #wonder what's in here?" seeing the deep, unlit #black which swallowed all light.
She stepped forward, into the #story...

Alexei's heart was hammering behind me. I could feel it jumping against my back, matching my own as a figure glided out into the room, trialling burning smoke in its wake.

With presence of forethought I assumed must be taught in his line of work, Alexei's grip tightened on my hand & he dragged me into the corner.
I didn't see the door until it opened. It might as well have not existed until it did, spawning into reality at the moment of its need.

I was about to apologise profusely when a creak sounded in the room.
I looked at our feet, searching for a loose board, we may have trodden on before it came again, just to our left.

"How can that be?"
I reached out to touch the line of smoke burnt into the floor before Alexei snatched my hand back. He glared at me in such a way as I have not had since my school days.
"I'm not sending you back to Miss Stokely in a coffin, okay!?" he hissed.

They had me moving as silently as mouse late for church with all the fear of said creature too.
I joined Alexei in his crouch and stared at the floor.
"Do you see it?" he said
I followed his gaze and had to put my hand to my mouth to stop my gasp.

"Follow my steps, let's try not to give ourselves away anymore than we already have," he said.
His tone was hushed but it felt like gong ringing in the unbroken stillness of the manor.
I did as instructed, glad of the silk shoes Emilia had gifted me.

I watched my companion as he crossed the floor, stepping carefully over shining spots where dust had been smeared away and the parquet floor, stained almost black with decades of polish, shone through. He crouched and beckoned me over.

Until it was opened
I did not see the door
Crawling through its clearance
Was what I did before
The same way I enter
Your closet & drawer
Leaving behind my fur
On clothes you adore

As Grammy descended into twilight, long after she'd forgotten our faces, she spoke of a white door, unseen by our eyes. A sliver of light became a crack became a passage, she said, & waved at a seamless wall.
Seeing isn't believing. Softly, we told her to step through & kissed her goodbye. #hbp100

Behind the door was another door, and another, and another. Each time I saw a new door, the paint was a little more worn, a little more cracked. Eventually, the handles grew more and more rusty. The handles stopped turning after a point. By then, I had begun to hear a rhythmic tapping.
Sometimes you stumble into an open door
Usually just by chance
And it shows you more than you could ever ask for
How to take part in life's strange dance

I didn’t see the door…
until it opened
solid oak
vines entwined
curling down
its well-worn spine
breaths wild escaped
its widened space
hotly beckoning
to its embrace
deep inside
that inner place
rocky ruins
primordial shrine
once you yours
now thine mine

The wall was solid. No seams, no handle—just an unbroken expanse of stone. Trapped. Then, a creak. A sliver of light. A way out. But the air turned thick. Shadows slithered where light should be. I didn’t see the door until it opened. I didn’t scream until hands pulled me through.

I was walking in the forest
With the woman who hugs trees
Wraps them in her arms
And says words comfortingly
I didn't see the door until it opened
Well crafted seamlessly
Why they came I do not know
They did not see me
I stirred
Showed my face
Then
Returned to the woman
And resumed my pace
I found myself lost in the forest, just as hail had begun to plonk down from the hellishly dark heavens...
walking what I assumed & hoped was homeward, I spotted a cave & darted inside, sighing in relief.
I didn't see the door until it opened — there stood my husband, welcoming me home.

Dark skies, feeling robbed
Now nestled in a kind #oak’s loam
𝐼'𝑚 𝑠𝑜 𝑠𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑑, I softly sobbed

Odd sounds churned in its bark
And a door now opened before me
I grabbed my cloak & donned hood
Into the #wild I shall flee

When you know a place really well you can walk through it without really seeing. Your brain saves processing power by filling in gaps with time-worn images, and you find you've walked from the bedroom to the kitchen without noticing anything at all.
We didn't see the door.
Until it opened.

The five-foot, old woman exited the small door, pushing her long stringy white hair from her face and grinned widely at me saying, “Just in time I was a mite, puckish.” She shoved me through the open door and shut it.It was then I realized with horror that it was an oven she’d been cleaning. #hbp100
The walls were blank and sterile white, without a single crease. It felt like a pit of cream-colored white. The door opened, revealing a group of men in suits who surrounded me. “Hello,” they said in creepy unison. “Welcome to our latest high-concept bistro!"
"Uhh, what the hell?"

Inigo Montoya and Fezzig outside the tree that holds the entrance to The Pit of Despair. From the movie The Princess Bride.
Suddenly had a random thought that, while certainly not my own, seemed appropriate for #hbp99 and #hbp100. (Also, congratulations on 100!)
The old woman’s cottage was concealed by the forest, but the smell of roasting meat led me to it. I didn’t see the door until it opened, and I entered. Racks of small, barbecued animals hung from the low ceiling.
‘Just in time for dinner,’ she said, as the door bolted behind me.

"I didn't see the door until it opened," Amarula confessed. "It's amazing what rage and money can make you do. Wanted to be my own woman, only to end up being a wind up death machine."
"And what made you wake up?" Tharra said.
"Jin. I think that kid is a saint." #hbp100
“I didn’t see the door until it opened.”
He abruptly asked, “why not?”
“I was too busy closing doors behind me; those of which no longer served by best interest,” I said. #hbp100
I did not notice the door.
Until it opened, not a moment before.
My idea went through flapping,
Leaving me floored and cry-laughing.
I'd have thought my thought was secure.

“What are you hiding in there?” Jill asked. “I didn’t see the door until it opened.”
“The way to the future,” said Jack.

I didn’t see the door until it opened for the dapper gentleman approaching behind me. He tipped his top hat to the doorman and slid quickly through the disguised door, when I finally saw the neon sign: Cronie’s Dinner Club. All the men wore tux, all the ladies wore furs.

Your body lay on the operating table; stiff, grey and lifeless. A hundred mechanisms that had once been the cutting edge of technology corroded and broken. But, your face still young and beautiful. I didn't see the door until it opened and the creature that controlled you emerged.

1/2 Celebrating #hbp100: I had lost all hope of ever finding a purpose. Then the purpose found me: an unexpected opportunity. Something I could do, something worthwhile. It appeared before me like a hidden door opening.
